hitachi, different versions

Alright lads,

If i was to replace my current hitachi 47 with another hitachi by swapping the pcb's does it make a difference what hitachi rom version drive i replace it with?

That is a very good question. I would think that as long as the hardware was the same it would work. But I haven't taken the time to notice the hardware differences between all the different versions of hitachi's. I know for sure a 78/79 will not work on 47 hardware though.
