Post by flamethrower »

hey :)

i have a standard xp professional pc in my house with loads of films etc on, I wonder is there a way of linking this to my xbox in order to stream videos from it?

i have seen some info on this, but nothing conclusive!

Its kind of a pain in the ass, but yes it is now setup so you dont need media centre.

All you need is windows media player 11.

Turn on your xbox, go to system settings, then go network settings. Then test PC connection.

It should be something like:

Xbox.....Network.....PC

Should take like 10 seconds to test the connection between your xbox and network, then once it gets to the pc part, it will go to a new screen an say "Please allow up to 30 seconds for PC to appear"

Now go on your computer, open windows media player, right click on it then go to Tools > Options. Then go to the Library Tab, then click configure sharing.

Tick the Share my media to checkbox, and hopefully it will show "Xbox 360" if not click configure, and checkmark the "automatically allow all new devices" checkbox. Now its a game of connecting your xbox to your PC.

My router is a bit** so its a pain to connect the two of them, takes me about 5 min's for my computer to appear on my xbox.

If after a few attempts you cannot see/connect to your pc, go back to windows media player, in the library tab, click configure sharing, and see if it now lists "xbox 360" if so you can take off the automatically allow new devices... But If it says its allowing your 360, then you just have to wait a little longer for your pc to appear on your xbox.

Also, another thing to check is that you have the media sharing service started. Go start > Run and type Services.msc now look for "Windows Media Network Sharing Service" and make sure its started, and set to automatic start.

Once your connected you can either add all the things you want to watch on your pc to your library, or just have your library monitor folders, and add things automatically. I have it monitoring my movie, tv, and music folders... So anytime I download new movies or TV my xbox see's it. If you want to do something simmilar, in windows media player again, go to settings, then go to library, this time click monitor folders, and add whatever folders you have all your stuff in.

Hope this helps!

i dont have any trouble with mine plays great
i did not think it was to bad to set up.

if you are going to play "avi files" your console will tell you there is a update.
you have to get that in order to play avi movies. ;)

My router is a cheap Dlink that I flashed with some firmware, and now it acts stupid, so for me it takes like 5 mins for my xbox to see my computer.
