so i put the drive back in the xbox and it won't read backup, originals or dvds. it just says reading and then ends with open tray. i flashed it back to stock and still won't read. . .

im starting to understand the fustration that others have when they do this. i think the drive is still in mode b and that's why it isn't reading it because none of this even makes any type of sense. it said it was complete and that eything was good. . .

Never could get jungle to work right with hit drives. Tend to always use toolbox which might be worth a shot.

Try with jungleflasher once more. Well actually twice more. First run the restore, then flash it. If it don't take then, restore it and try firmware toolbox.

If you fancy using toolbox on a drive thats never been flashed before or has been restored then:

FIRST TIME INSTALL (v40-v78)

Put the drive into ModeB

There are 2 modes of reading the FW, Classic and RAW, RAW is far better
as no previous stealth method would fool it, but currently hangs if you
have the drive attached thru USB-SATA adapter, use only with native SATA.
Classic only works for Hitachi Versions Previous to 78 and if the drive
is already hacked then the reading could be fooled by the FW Stealth
methods. The best recomendation is USE RAW as first option.

- If RAW Method doesn't work try classic.

- Press the button "EJECT" on the window, the tray on the drive should open

- Insert a DVD Movie or a 360 game in the drive.

- Press the button "LOAD" on the window, the tray should close, wait a few
seconds, if a window appears asking to open the media inserted, close it.

- Press the button "RAW Dump Firmware As ..." and. (save as original.bin)

- If everthing goes fine the reading will start and after a few seconds
a windows asking if u want to check the checksum will appear, Choose YES

- If the checksum check DOES NOT PASS then stop your installation, that
could be sign of a poor wire connection or an incompatible sata chipset.
Try on another PC.

- If the checksum says PASS then will ask you if you want to open, Choose YES.

- Now the Main Window will show firmware info.

- Highlight the full key then right click and copy (its also worth saving it into a word file or writing it down)

- Now load in the ixtreme 1.51 firmware which corresponds to your drive

- Paste the key into the where you first copied it from then click on the Save Key tab

- Then go to "Tools->Direct Drive Flash->Differential Flash Patch"

- select the drive then "Read Drive and Detect Differences", a list should be populated

- Press the "Start Flashing" button and after a few seconds the thing is done
you can shutdown everthing and start testing the drive on the console.

Had this problem ages ago with an older hitachi drive. Think i had to use classic instead of raw dump or one of the other options. Sure it was classic though.

tried classic dump and it didn't work, the main thing is that with toolbox it's not reading the disk in the drive so it's not even allowing me to complete the flash. . .

sounds like a wonky drive to me. I've have a couple hitachi's thats given me complete fits. Had one yesterday as a matter of fact. A 78FK. Took me darn near 1 hour to do what should have taken 1 minute.

Give it a gentle kick (or maybe not :) ) then maybe try it with a dual layer movie dvd in case its having trouble reading the game in. Failing that threaten it.
