Please help Hitachi 79 drive flashing with Jungle 1.51

Post by Plagasx »

Hello,

I am trying to flash my Hitachi v79 drive through Jungle Flasher 1.51 beta. I have gotten my drive to be detected in Jungle Flasher using the PortIO drivers. I also have the drive connected to my VIA v6421 chipset card and using a CK3 lite to power the drive.

Now, what I want to know now is can I just put the drive in Mode B through Jungle? or do I have to use all those command prompts and the Slax CD? Also, about unlocking the drive. Can't I just Jungle flasher also just to unlock it?? and just go straight to the dumping of my original firmware?

The reason I'm asking this is because I'm seeing all these tutorials with people using those command promps even when Jungle Flasher is out.

Thanks!

This is what I did.

At this point if you haven't made the 79 Unlock cd, now might be a good time to do that.
With the drive hooked up and recognized by JF on the left hand side of the Hitachi tab, Click the Mode B button near the bottom. JF will tell you to eject the drive, now insert the 79 unlock cd, then click ok. Now check to see the drive has been recognized in the drop down menu, if not go ahead and play the 79 Unlock cd. Now it should be in the drop down menu, you may have to refresh it.

Once that's done, if it's a stock drive all you have to do is select the Flash iXtreme radio button, and click the Flash Hacked f/w button near the bottom. This will auto-load the firmware if you've got it saved in the firmware folder of Jungle Flasher.
Then that's should be it.

If it's a previous flash you have to do a restore first and then the iXtreme flash.

Hey thanks for the reply.

Oh and I just need a little clarification on this part: "Now check to see the drive has been recognized in the drop down menu, if not go ahead and play the 79 Unlock cd."

If it's not detected in the drop down box what do you mean "Play Unlock Cd"?

Thanks again.

There's a button on jungle flasher that says 79 Unlock, just press that. When you press the mode b button, JF tells you to open the drive, that's when I put the cd in the hitachi drive. That way when it goes into mode b the cd is ready to do its thing. Once the disc is in and the drive in mode b, if that drop down box still doesn't show the hit drive then click the 79 unlock button. You'll see there at the bottom the progress. Once the 79 unlock cd is done you shouldn't have any problems flashing the drive.

Hey thanks,

Okay when it recognized it and everything when I got up to the part where it says save OFW.bin to where. After that I tried flashing it using the Flash iXtreme button and I got this message:

"Drive key not found. f/w may be currupt!"

What does this mean?? Oh god, please dont tell me I bricked the drive..........

It ejects with the ck3 still...So I'm assuming it isn't bricked, or am I wrong?

Thanks

don't worry, your ok. It just means that when you dumped the firmware it couldn't find the key in the ofw.bin. You just have to try again. Make double sure that all your settings are correct everything from the model radio buttons to whether you've selected PortIO32 or WinAPI depending on whether or not you disabled your VIA drivers. Use PortIO32 if you did, and WinAPI if you didn't. You may have to try it both ways to see if one or the other works better for you. But DO NOT flash the drive until you've verified a good key.

okay the did what you said and the drive is showing up in my drop down now. I also hit 79 unlock with the CD in the drive and it read it and now it ejected it.

What do I do from here? Because it still didn't dump my firmware yet..

Thanks

EDIT: Oh my god, I did it!! All I had to do was close the drive when It ejected from the 79 unlock and I click the read to source to get the key and it worked!!!

I flashed it now!

Thanks a bunch man!! :D
