Up date firmware on DVD drive

Post by commando_lee »

Guys i have seen this article on a web site.

New 8x Aritas Printable Double Layer DVD. Super Xbox 360 Compatibility !

These double layer discs have a white printable top surface and have been tested to be highly compatible with DVD players and Video Game Consoles.

Double-layer media has a capacity of 8.5GB, this equates to 240 minutes of video in standard play mode.

SEP (Super Extended Play): 960 min
SLP (Super Long Play): 720 min
EP (Extended Play): 480 min
LP (Long Play): 360 min
SP (Standard Play): 240 min
HQ (High Quality Play): 120 min

We always recommend that customers keep the firmware on their DVD writers up to date. This is especially true in the case of double layer media as a large number reported problems we receive are due to out of date firmware.

The recommended DVD Writer for this disc is a Pioneer 116 / 216

We also recommend that you use IMGBURN for backing up your original games.

i have a drive which is d/l but have problems burning back up copy of game on it where my other drive burns perfect. my question is Can i update the firmware on it so it will burn them or is it easier to buy 1 that will do it?

The super compatibility is just a marketing ploy. All dual layer DVD's are compatible with your 360, but different brands vary in physical disk quality. I doubt these disks are better then verbatim's

Anyways, as for burning, some burners just do not burn very well. The FW will not help this in most cases, it doesnt hurt to try though. I have only used a lite-on burner to burn my xbox games, so I dont really know what the best is, but I head something about Pioneer being best.

The other guys can let you know what the better burners are to use. So to answer your original question, try updating the FW, it cant hurt.

ive got a samsung dvd drive which works perfect without any problems, all it was is my other system which is an ACER the drive in that just does not want to burn the disk also my pal has got exactly the same drive in his ACER machine and gets the same error when trying the same thing, im thinking it may just be that model which is crap

Likely thats the problem, I believe the bad burns are due to the laser, so if you have a low quality burner, the diode will be low quality aswell. Also, if you burn alot the diode will wear out, and the quality of your burns will decrease. (So Ive heard)

Acer's are cheap :P If you dont need a high end comp for anything, acer's the way to go :P

There are only 6 drives currently that can read xbox 360 games. The 4 samsung drives, and the BenQ drive for the 360, aswell as the MS25/MS28 for the 360.

Good idea, I bought a kreon so I could mount it in my comp I would get annoyed looking at sata running out my comp onto a drive sitting on top, with it mounted its cleaner, and I like it :P

Buying a backup drive is a good idea though.
