OK guys, I'm really stuck...
I got the infamous freeze during Lite-on erase issue with jungle flasher. I found the tutorial here for using l-o-eras, and I have my CFW prepared and a good dump, but now the issue is getting my computer to boot from DOS. I've booted this computer from USB before, but it is simply refusing this time.
I've tried 2 separate USB keys formatted as FAT and FAT32, using iPrep to format and the HP tool. I've gone though everything in the bios to make sure USB booting is enabled and even tried manually selecting them at the boot menu.
My next step was to create a DOS bootable CD. It boots fine, but none of the iPrep files I add actually show up when I'm in DOS, only the ones that were originally in the image. I double checked in windows and the files are there, they just don't show up in DOS.
I tore apart my house and found an old floppy, got it formatted with iPrep, and checked that all the files were there, but now in DOS I keep getting Data read errors once it's booted.
Can anyone please offer me some pointers to get this damn thing booted to DOS with the files I need to flash? Any help is greatly appreciated.

No other PC's, just Mac laptops
I've tried 2 USB ports, but I'll try them all - I'm also wondering if somehow the USB keyboard is messing with boot. I'm going to see if I can dig up a PS/2 keyboard.

Also, I've tried going back into jungle flasher. The PC slows to a crawl when the Lite-on is powered on. I can get it erased, but when I get to the writing stage it always stalls on writing the first bank and locks up the computer.

CoFree or Sadalius might have an idea or two, you just need to let them get on and check it out.

You can forget about Jungle Flasher at this point. You're only hope is to get dosflash to work in DOS.
First thing you need to be able to get to is the your cfw the bootable cd sounds like your best bet. If your familiar with DOS then it should be as easy as rebuilding the image that you burnt the first cd with, but just add the folder with all of the files that iPrep puts together minus the ones that Cofree mentions in the video. Next once you've booted to that disc, type "dir" without quotations. That command will give you a list of everything on the disc. Then type "cd ???" where ??? represents the name of the directory with dosflash and your Cfw. Once your in that directory you can then run l-o-eras.exe and dosflash to get your lite-on up and running again.

Since posting I've tried a few things. First, I managed to get jungle flasher to work a little better by uninstalling portio32 then installing it again while jungle flasher was already running. This got me to the flashing stage, and it looked like it was working, but stalled again at the end of bank 3. I now have semi-working firmware, because I can eject the drive, but it still reports as no drive, and further attempts to flash return status 0x0.technoe wrote:You can forget about Jungle Flasher at this point. I just tried burning the DOS boot CD using an older dos version, and it has the same issue, only the normal dos boot disk files are visible. the entire directory of flashing stuff I made is not visible in DOS. I used to use DOS back in the day, so I still remember some of the commands - I used a dir /p to check.
I'm going to look for other boot CD images or maybe it's the software I'm using... it's magic ISO, one of the only ones I know of that handles adding files to an image...
Either way, thanks for the help so far

I GOT IT WORKING!
I tried using BART's method to create the boot CD, and it worked flawlessly. I have no idea why the other images didn't work, but I'm just glad that I got it working.
Anyone with issues booting to DOS should use this method - http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#cdromsi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Thanks for the help along the way, and the wicked video tutorial

Yeah, you could have also used Frosty's 360 mod disk. It boots from CD as well. Good job on figuring this out on your own though man!!
