Hello everyone,
I've been trying to get JF to see my hitachi 46/47 with no luck. I have a via6421 and was able to do a benq yesterday with no issues. I have tried just using portio and a combination of that and drivers. I have also tried selecting winapi with no luck. Drive is still not seen on port. Any suggestions on how to get this drive recognized? I read through some of the posts on here but with no solution. All I need to do is dump the fw so I can spoof using jf. Any help would be appreciated!!

Make sure you've got the drive in mode b. If you do, then I would suggest using firmware toolbox 4.8 to try and dump the firmware with. It seems on these older drives, FTB does a better job getting in them than JF does.

I was not able to send mode b to the drive as it wasn't recognized under the port in JF. How do I go about mode b when it isn't recognized on the port? Thanks!
Re: JF not seeing Hitachi 46/47
There are a couple of ways. The slax cd is very popular. what you do is boot slax in your computer that your hitachi is connected to, make sure it has a separate power supply though because once slax gets to the login screen, you have to reset your computer and boot back into windows. During the slax boot process, if it sees your hitachi, you'll get a message about disks spinning up. If you do, just eject the drive and then close tray after the eject. Should take two presses of the eject button to keep it closed.
The other way is to use a connectivity kit of some kind that has a mode b switch. Simply connect the kit to the drive and then to the computer, press the mode b button and boot your computer.
You have to have a hitachi in mode b before the computer will see the drive.

Thanks for your help so far, could you clarify where you say to eject the drive an the tray after the eject? Thanks!
Re: JF not seeing Hitachi 46/47
Sorry about that. I edited the post for clarity, but once slax gets to a certain point in its boot process and it sees the drive, it may say spinning up disks and seem to be stuck there, just eject the hitachi and then close the tray after it ejects and it should continue booting. It should take two presses of the eject button to keep the drive closed at this point. That is one of the signs that the drive is in mode b.

Thank you sooo much for your help!! I was able to get slax to get the drive into mode b. I dumped the fw as you suggested using firmware toolbox and then got it spoofed to a benq and flashed using JF. All is working wonderfully. I did run into an issue with my pc freezing up and not wanting to load JF or toolbox after putting the drive into mode b but I'm sure it was just the computer. Once again thanks for all the help!!
Re: JF not seeing Hitachi 46/47
you could have also just used firmware toolbox to just dump the key then spoof it via jungleflasher. that shouldn't have been a problem (well @ least if you have a ck3 kit it's not don't know if you have one though)

Re: JF not seeing Hitachi 46/47
That's exactly what I did, just dumped the fw with toolbox and then spoofed and flashed with JF. It was smoother then I thought it was going to be! I don't have a ck3 but I should invest in one. The computer I use is an older hp with a via card installed. I don't have a monitor laying around for it so I just usually remote into it. I brought my monitor home from work so I could see what was going on in slax so i was using the computer locally which for some reason kept freezing up, not loading jf or toolbox so I said what the heck, it always works when I remote into the machine. So that's what I did and all the symptoms went away. Imagine that lol.HAZ3 wrote:you could have also just used firmware toolbox to just dump the key then spoof it via jungleflasher. that shouldn't have been a problem (well @ least if you have a ck3 kit it's not don't know if you have one though)
