VIA Card Driver

Post by XisiLL »

If I'm using iPrep to flash any drive (lite-on too) is it ok if I leave my SATA card driver installed ? Because my laptop shouldn't/can't freeze when using DOS to read/flash right ?

If your using iprep or other method of flashing your drives through DOS, you shouldn't have to disable the driver. You should be fine going through DOS.

sadalius, he does bring up a good point. if using jungleflasher, you'll have to use the workaround however, if using iprep, he would need the drivers back for the via card, correct me if im wrong. now i know it's no big deal as long as you have the drivers but it's more work. this would only apply to a desktop though

Well, the thing is, he is using a laptop. I don't know anyone thats successfully flashed a drive with a laptop. That don't mean that it can't be done mind you, I just haven't seen or heard of anyone being successful at it.

But not even considering that fact, you both are correct. If he's going to use windows and JF to do the flashing and he has a VIA sata chipset, he would need to do the work around, but he would have to take into consideration one thing, is there any devices connected to it that the system depends on, like the primary HDD. If you disable the driver and your primary hdd runs off that controller, you will no longer be able to boot your system until you re-loaded your OS with the driver.

If going through DOS, he wouldn't need to worry about disabling the drivers at all.

well man
i have some via cards like that, the problem is getting the drivers to load in dos(using iprep) when you boot on the flash
if there is a card that will do that for 100%
then i will get another one ASAP (for testing)

Also i could not get jungle flasher to see through the pcmcia card and pick up the dvd drive that was hook to it.
I think this is doable if they did some more work on jungle flasher. :?

I have put many hours into this with hands on testing and research, but always came to a dead end.
This is something that has been worked on at every major site at one time or another.

hmmm
i may have to get one more damn card to try.

ok man
you are telling me that
you have used this card with iprep to flash what drives.
a samsung and or a benq.

give me a run down on what you have done with that card.

i dont see how that card will ever work with a lite-on
there is not way the portio has been ported to work with a pcmcia card
and the via hardware is going to cause a lite-on lockup
i could be wrong
but i would bet on it.

I used this card to flash using JF previously now Iprep. And I have flashed a Sammy MS-28 and a Lite-on, USING JF! And it didn't freeze. But then the second time I tried doing a lite on it froze during erasing. But now my laptop didn't detect any drives. Although today I connected my lite on to my laptop and iPrep detected the drive in one of the SATA ports but it couldn't pull the key, identify, inquiry, and make the dummy. It said it failed that then it brought me to a red c:/ prompt where i typed dosflash and then the port with the PLDS came out saying MTK vendor failed. This was with iPrep

CoFree is right. You'll have to use the l-o-eras and dosflash method to recover it.
