port IO32

Post by x88x »

When I get my sata card I know I have to install its driver. By the way I have samsung MS28 drive.

1) Do I have to install port IO32 also???

2) Why do I have to install port IO32 and what is it for???

3) If I have to install it.....where do I get it from???

4) I look around forums and people say that you have to delete driver??? Why??? Just a little confused. I thought you need to install the sata card drivers.

Thanks for the information.

The only time that I use PortIO32 is with the lite-ons. Recently I've been doing a lot of lite-ons so it's been installed pretty regularly. You can leave it installed.

PortIO32 is basically a driver for JF to "talk" to the VIA Sata Raid card. You need it for the lite-on drives because JF will freeze as well as your whole PC if the VIA drivers try to poll the lite-on drive after the lite-on erase.

It usually comes in the rar file that JF is in. It has an auto installer but rarely works but there's step-by-step instructions on how to install it manually.

You don't need to delete the VIA drivers just disable them. I disable the card in "Device Manager" then rename the driver file (viamraid.sys for XP, vsmraid.sys for Vista) to ???.bak where ??? equals the info before the extension. Like in question 2 the VIA drivers try to poll the empty lite-on drive after "Lite-on Erase" has been given causing it to get confused and freeze the whole PC.

I think PortIO is for JungleFlasher use only, if you plan to use iPrep then I don't think you need it.

You still need to install PortIO32 but you don't need to un-install the via drivers.

Sorry hyperdrive, I was replying to the post above yours. You're right. PortIO is only for JF. But I only use PortIO for lite-ons meaning that I only disable the drivers while flashing a lite-on drive for everything else I use WinAPI.
