Need some help/guidance....

Post by xtinction »

Hey everyone, thank you in advance for the help.

Heres where I stand: I have a ck3 and probe. Ive modded every drive now except the lite-on from stock. Ive used JF for all versions of the hitachi with no problems and ive used frostys mod disc for the samsung and benq just recently with no problems. Ive even updated my already hacked firmware on my own lite-on drive with JF, the only problem that came up with that was it froze during erase and with the help of cofrees tuts i got it back up in dos.

I currently am trying to mod a lite-on from stock. I cant get the drive detected in JF. Ive tried all that I can think of to get it to show. i/o port is loaded, ive power cycled it during my computer boot, ive power cycled in JF and rechecked, ive turned off ck3 and unplugged sata and replugged it back in. Nothing seems to kick JF into gear. My computer even shows the drive during boot but when it gets into windows i cant find it. Im lost on that....and b4 anyone asks Im sure i have the correct i/o port and ive cycled through those just to make sure and nothing comes up. The com port notices the ck3 but thats all I can get. (comes up on COM 5)

With the above problem I decided to move onto the 360 mod disc and try that. My only question is when doing the lite-on do i need anything besides ck3, serial cable and the probe? I remember seeing a diagram to make something (sorry brain fart) that hooks into 707 but is that just a homemade probe?

I would do the iprep flash but last time i tried to make a usb boot disk my computer wouldnt kick into gear, im not sure if its because my board is just to old for that or not but i ended up making a floppy boot and it worked fine when I finished the flash update on my lite-on.

I apologise in advance if this is already on here.....i searched for a while and couldnt find the specific answers to my questions.

Thanks

do not do the erase on that drive till you are 100% sure you have all the files and they are good.

man
im not sure why your pc wont see the drive
try a different drive(any drive) just to make sure the port is still good(long shot)
but if its worked before then something has changed

yea it must have been a home made probe
because that is all you need
ck3 9pin cable and a probe.

Im not sure either. I know it sees it because on the first screen from boot where it flashes your memory and drives it shows the name of the drive....thats why im so damn confused why I cant pull it up with JF. I racked my brain trying all sorts of things last night for 3 1/2 hrs before I decided to give it a rest and go to bed. I even downloaded the xtracter program and checked it with that but it couldnt find the drive. I switched to sata port 2 and same thing.

I have a msi k8n neo3 MB (yeah i know, old but it works) and its got the nvidia sata chipset. I remember when i did the update on my lite-on drive i was running across the same issue but eventually got it to see it.......unfortunately i didnt keep any notes to look back on.

anyone other suggestions?

Cofree - I havent looked to much into the iprep way.....usb boot disks are something new to me that I havent played with, seeing the MB i have is it possible? I could always go that route

updates: no progress LOL

I tried the 360 mod disc and everytime i went to extract the key it said bad inquiry or something along the lines of that. Another thing that I was unsure of until I read up on it is that my probe has a solid blue and green light on at all times, and according to what I've read online its toast....yay.

Ive updated my bios, deleted my old sata drivers and reloaded them but still cannot detect the drive in windows.

I dont want to be defeated by the lite-on....its the only drive i havent completed yet dammit. Plus I dont want to give it back to my friend and tell him sorry but I couldnt get yours done lol so any help or suggestions would be great...or steer me in another direction.

Well technically speaking Sata is a form of IDE connection so it should show up in BIOS as either a Sata or IDE device. It sounds like maybe your ck3 is busted and not your probe. But you can dump a lite-on without the probe. You just need a small wire in the 707 hole to ground. There's a big pad close by that you can use for ground.

Whats the indication that my ck3 is busted? I just used it the day prior to do a Benq and Samsung without any problems.

then its probably not your ck3 its probably your probe but the good news is that can contact who ever you bought it from and then see if they'll replace it for you.

So I was just reading up some more on if anyone has had the same problem as me on the net and found another forum where someone was stating the same thing: his bios was detecting the drive but as soon as he opened up JF it wasnt detected....the com port was checking out fine but when he cycled through his i/o ports nothing came up...same as myself. One of the mods came to the conclusion at the end that since he wasnt using the 6421 via card thats why he was having the problems and if that person bought one of those cards and hooked it up it would work first try. Is this a possibility?? I was under the impression that the nvidia chipsets were also compatible.....but perhaps with the lite-on drives the via is a lot more reliable?! Let me know what you guys think....ill spend the $15 if this sounds like a lock on the solution...although if my probes dead i need another one of those to LOL

The problem with the VIA cards is that they will lock up your pc once you do the lite-on erase command with JF. That is unless you go through the trouble of disabling the drivers for the card. It's a pretty simple process and it's exactly what most of us use on a daily basis. So I wouldn't definitely put up the cash for the card it will probably make your life a bit easier.

ok, next question. I have a via card coming so with any luck my no detection problems will disappear. Now what I need to know is if my ck3 probe did in fact die....is there another way to extract the key instead of having to order another probe and waiting over a month to get it like last time. Ive seen posts on soldering (which I would like to avoid if possible, not to much experience) and also the screwdriver trick to bridge the connection even home-made probes from safety pins. Let me know

Thanks

Of the methods that you mentioned, I don't know any other way of obtaining the key from a virgin lite-on. Sorry man. Your going to have to stick to one of those methods unfortunately.

none of those are a problem, I just wanted to make sure that if I was going to do the screwdriver bridge I would go about doing it the same way but instead of putting the probe in the 707 hole I would just bridge the connection points.

Thanks

Thats it man. You would use the original power cable that your CK3 came with, the use a small flat blade screwdriver to bridge r707 instead of putting a probe into the hole.
