if i may chime in, when i think about it, when i host boot its the same concept of flooding ips with infected computers (bots) so maybe their trying to hostboot are IP of the servers? if this is true mayb some members of the this site might be infected with a bot or key logger, allowing to log all their events such as ip logs so thats how they got the servers ip

of course it depends on your host too. You can easily test this out yourself if you have at least two computers on the same network. It's not as easy as you might think to stop net services by ddos all by yourself. He may have said he was by himself, but you can bet he wasn't.

True true. Then again the host we were on at the time wasnt the best (but it was free, since we were friends with the owner of the hosting company)

The server's IP is very simple to get, and anyone can get it. I highly doubt anyone is infected with any malware, we are not actually being directly attacked by a hacker, but indirectly effected. The hacker is attacking a different website that is on the same server as us.
