Basically with the Ixtreme 1.6 you're supposed to be able to backup and play games with the same drive. By powering on the drive with the tray half ejected it's supposed to activate the ripping mode. Using XBC 2.9 you can then hook your xbox 360 with Blaster V1 to your pc via the sata port and it should be recognized in XBC. A lot of people had problems with this with XBC 2.8 but I've heard nothing about 2.9.

As far as the blaster is concerned, there isn't a switch specifically for backing up games. It as a power switch, a modeb switch, a switch for turning on or off the glow led's, and an eject button.

Now that being said, using ix 1.6 and a blaster would make it easier to use for backup purposes. Basically, you would plug in a molex connector and your sata connector, turn the drive on, eject the tray, turn the drive off, close the tray half way, turn the drive back on and then boot your computer. All without having to take the 360 apart to get at the drive.
