Yesterday, we heard our first rumors about a new, trimmed-down PlayStation 3, which is supposed to be revealed during E3. Now we have what might be our first piece of legitimate photographic proof of the rumor. The above image was leaked to Engadget today, and it shows what appears to be what we're going to call the PlayStation Slim.
The possible Slim was captured by a ridiculously low-quality picture, probably from a very budget cell phone. From what I can tell, the photo is definitely not of a current PlayStation 3. The edges of the PS3 have been rounded and slanted down, and this new console is drastically thinner than the PlayStation's on the market right now.
Of course, it's entirely possible this is just a photoshopped PS3 box. The Slim in this picture looks almost too skinny to be real. I don't know how Sony could've managed to cut the size by that much and still have a 120GB hard drive and a Blue-Ray player.
A less expensive and smaller PS3 that packed the same capabilities as its big brother could help lift Sony out of the current fiscal dive they are in. A lot of the PS3's problems stem from its cost and size. If Sony isn't working on some way to deal with this (and what other way is there than a PS3 Slim?) then they have to be crazy.
