Re: Hitachi 47 problems
Have you tried other games, including originals. You could always try flashing again.

Kind of sounds like your laser is starting to go. Try originals dvd's etc. If it does the same thing for those then its your laser.
You can try cleaning it, pot tweaking, or replacing it. You can always just buy a new drive, I find Hitachi's are kind of crappy quality...

Thanks guys for the ideas. I forgot to put in the post that I flashed the drive at a 12 speed but burned the backups at a for speed. Could this also effect the reading of the disk?

nope. Flashing the drive at 12 speed. What youve done is flashed the 12x firmware, which means the drive will read games at 12x which is the default speed for the drive so you will be less likely to be detected by M$ for having a modded console.bigt8156 wrote:Thanks guys for the ideas. You burned at a for speed? I assume you mean you burned at 4x, that just means you burned at 5540 kb/s. Burning at 4x will reduce the quality of the disk, but shouldnt stop it from booting...
Does your drive play original xbox games?

Note* in my other post when I said 4x reduces the quality, I meant burning at 4x as opposed to 2x is lower quality, because you are writing faster.
If So:
Your drive's motor is starting to wear out, or is having a hard time spinning. You should check this out:
viewtopic.php?f=198&t=2816" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
if not:
Sounds like your laser is starting to go. Disconnect your drive, and open it up. Try to clean the laser.
When your playing, listen to your drive, does it seem to be spinning fast, then slow down, and seem to stop spinning. Then make a couple noises, then it will freeze or tell you the disk is dirty?bigt8156 wrote:No it hangs up on originals also

Re: Hitachi 47 problems
iv just had an xbox brought back it got flashed 2 yrs ago, for the same thing (to see if i can fix it) the lady said she was playing games and it just froze, it happened 3 times different days and different games then she got 1 flashing red light iv told her that the fix is to replace the xclamp with a few m5 bolts and steel and nylon washers but its not gaurenteed....anyway...
game freezing could be ana chip dying (graphics) you might need the same fix. it goes under the mobo beneath the lowest radiator thing ??

Oh crap, I read his post wrong, it was about freezing games, I was thinking the game would freeze, and tell him dirty disk.
Sorry, like Grassass said, it is likely failing graphics chips if it locks up.
