Huge Heat Sink (Ive never seen one this big)

Post by HaGGardSmurf »

I was modding my buddys Lite-On which was originally mine, I sent it away for RROD, and when I got it back I traded him for one of his xbox's (I didnt need HDMI, and he did etc...) Then he started having drive problems so he sent it away, and when he got it back there was a lite-on in it.

So I opened it up today to mod it and noticed this after I finished flashing:

Edit: I took a pic of his heatsink vs a normal one so I could show him on facebook ;)

Is having that huge heat sink good of bad?

When did the console return from Microsoft?

I've never seen one of those.

Well its good, more heat will be drawn off the processor's and blown out the back. The heatsink itself seems to allow much more air flow...

The console was returned from the second repair about 2 and 1/2 months ago... Sent it for the first repair maybe 5 months ago?

My personal Lite-on was refurbished maybe a week after that elite was sent in..

I think that elite was a swap, when I sent it for RROD so maybe the new elites have this large heat sink? I guess if they repaired it they may have swapped the heat sink's

Just got an elite to flash that went to MS for RROD repair about a week ago and it has one of these large heat sinks. Maybe they are replacing them all when they are in for repair. This one has a benq drive fitted.

Ive seen about 6 or 7 more boxes with this heatsink since I posted this thread, none of those boxes have got red rings (because if they did I would need to restore the drive or fix it) I am definitely a fan of these new heatsinks...
