Repeat Ejecting
well my first gen. xbox finally got the red ring so I take it apart do the xclamp fix and BOOM fixed so I put it all back together and the Hitachi drive keeps ejecting it doesn't try to read or anything so I hit the eject button to close it and it opens all over again....... any thoughts?
Re: Repeat Ejecting
Can you close it by hand? If so, it may have somehow put itself into mode b?

Sounds to me like mode b. Hitachi's used to do this to me when I powered them with the xbox.

Re: Repeat Ejecting
Do you have a ck3? If so hook it up, and try using the mode b on the ck3 turn it on then off...
Normally to get out of mode b, I just power cycle the drive, and it is all good.
I did a bit of googling, and I came across a similar problem to this, and the apparent answer was this:
YOUR DRIVE IS NOT IN MODE B.
What has happen, is the first time you flash the drive, you
must have used the "cross-wire" way without a resistor,
and as a result you have burned or shorten a part on the
mainboard, and what is happening now is the drive is
trying to open or close the tray and it can't because that
part is burned or damaged. The light blinks on the x360
when the tray is moving in the open or close direction,
and stops blinking when it is fully open or fully close, but
because the trace and/or part is burned the drive does
not know that the tray is fully closed.
The "cross-wire" way is very harmful to the Hitachi, and
one of four things can happen when you do it:
#1: The above happens, the drive does not know tray position.
#2: The tray never opens with eject
#3: The tray never closes with eject
#4: Nothing happens, and drive still works.
#4 is best to hope for, and is only possible when using a
1K resistor or higher. Personally I would never use anything
less than 1.8K
I'll see what else I can some up with for you, in the mean time connect it to your computer, and try anything you can think of.

Re: Repeat Ejecting
I hate to say, but you may have fried your drive. Since your xbox is a first gen, it doesnt have the same protection as a second gen, and it will power up even if there is a short somewhere in your xbox.
Take your box apart, and take a look at the drive power cable, see if its plugged in all the way, its likely loose on one side or not completely in.
Come to think of it, my first flash attempt ended up going bad (I powered with the xbox, and ended up frying my drive) and I believe any console I put the drive in, the front LED constantly flashes as if its opening. This may be a similar problem.
I would say, take a look at the power cable, push it in with some pressure if you feel it go in some more, then its likely your drive has been fried.
