question about flashing lite-on drive
question about flashing lite-on drive
today I got my maximus usb xtractor and was going to flash my first lite-on drive, I was using a connectivity kit version 2 to power the drive, via pci card with via drivers installed, have portio32 drivers installed and usb drivers installed for the usb xtractor, well when I hooked up the lite-on drive to my computer using a sata cable and connectivity kit and was getting ready to dump the drive key using maximus xtractor reader program and usb xtractor, I went to cut on the connectivity kit and right when i did my computer completely locked up. this had never happened before, so I restarted my computer but right before windows xp loaded i cut the drive back on ejected the drive cut it off and pushed in the drive tray half way, cut it back on and waited for xp to load, once xp loaded my computer did not freeze and i proceeded to dump the drive and was able to, I got the dummy.bin, inquiry.bin, serial.bin and key.bin, once I got that I loaded the dummy file into jungle flasher and the drive key seemed to be good, it was not a bunch of repeating numbers or letters so I loaded ixtreme firmware 1.6 and hit spoof source to target to create litecfw.bin file and this is where i am stuck, I'm not sure if I should flash the drive, if I do i would use iprep and not jungle flasher since i am more comfortable using it, I plan to make a bootable floppy disk(floppy has always worked for me with benq and samsung drives) with iprep and create a backup folder and a folder in it named 1234567 and another one named 12345 and put litecfw.bin file in it and flash it that way, but im not sure if I should because of the way the drive locked up my computer, I'm afraid the drive key may not be good because of the way I got it and that during the process of flashing the drive with iprep, the drive will lock up my computer in the part when you have to cut the drive off and back on, should I uninstall the via driver before I try to flash the drive, I have read in some of the threads that its better to uninstall the via driver and disable it to, I know how to uninstall the driver but how do I disable it. Sorry about the long post but this was the only way I could explain what was going on. Thanks for any help in advance.

Re: question about flashing lite-on drive
To the best of my knowledge you cannot use a floppy to flash a LiteOn with iPrep....I have never tried it personally as I have computers with thumb drives. If you have your Lite_cfw.bin you will not want to flash with iPrep, you will need to flash with dosFlash, a very simple tool and you can read about it in the 360 flashing/tut forum. If when you review that and you have questions, shoot them back right here on this thread.I plan to make a bootable floppy disk(floppy has always worked for me with benq and samsung drives) with iprep and create a backup folder and a folder in it named 1234567 and another one named 12345 and put litecfw.bin file in it and flash it that way,
BTW...if you have doubts as to the validity of your key, just dump it again and compare the keys.

Re: question about flashing lite-on drive
you cant use a floppy disc
using iprep on a lite-on
there is not enough room for all the file
you need to use a usb flash
if you are doing this with a via
then i would say stay with iprep

Re: question about flashing lite-on drive
the reason I have always used a floppy is because my computer will not boot from a usb flash drive, so I guess I will use another one, Cofree or any one who can answer this should I not install the via driver on the other computer when i go and try to flash the drive? I'm just afraid of the computer locking up and screwing up the drive. I also went back and dump the key again and both of them match so I'm guessing that the key is good. Thanks again for all the help everyone I greatly appreciate it.
Re: question about flashing lite-on drive
make sure you keep a copy of that key
if you use iprep you will have to use the via driver
if you are going to use jungle flasher the dont install the via drivers
jungle will work with most on board sata ports
if you use iprep you will have to use the via driver

Re: question about flashing lite-on drive
Just a little note, its probably a good thing your not using jungle to flash this drive. If your pc locks up when you cut the power to the drive, then repower it, your going to have problems after you send the erase command and are looking for a 0x72 status.
Re: question about flashing lite-on drive
Thanks for all the help guys I greatly appreciate it,I think I will do this on a computer that will boot from a flash drive and do it in iprep, it just seems to be the safest way to get it done, I will get back with you guys and let you know how it went, again thank you Cofree and everyone on the site for all the help.
Re: question about flashing lite-on drive
I have another question, I have dumped the key using usb xtractor and im sure that the key is good, now I know that you said that you cant use a floppy to flash the drive but, if I already have custom firmware made, couldn't I just make a bootable floppy and just do it like an upgrade even though the drive has never been flashed, I mean since already have custom firmware ready to go and I don't have to dump the drive when im in iprep and I just want to flash it should I just be able to put in the backup folder with the custom firmware in to that floppy and just flash it, I mean since i am not writing anything into the floppy when I use the flit command, shouldn't that work. Also isn't there a video where Cofree does an upgrade to a lite on drive using iprep? if there is one could some post a link, because I cant seem to find it. Thanks again
Re: question about flashing lite-on drive
