Noob question.....kinda?

Hi folks,
im new to flashing and a friend has a benq which has been flashed before, and now he needs to go to ixtr 1.51. Needless to say he has not got his original firmware. Can he upgrade without first downgrading to the OFW. Which drives MUST have original firmwares to go from say ixt1.4 to ix 1.51, and which can just be overwritten with the ixt1.51. I hope this question is not too dumb.

Only the Hitachi drives must be restored before flashing.

What FW is on his BenQ right now? 1.4?

Thanks for the reply,Im really not sure, all I know is that he had it flashed before, hes not very computer literate so he has no idea. How would you suggest I proceed......if at all?

Less chance of problems, as long as you follow the instructions and make copies of your original firmware.

I would also skip the iXreme 1.51 and go for 1.6. It is the newest FW out and is more secure.

I tried to load the ixtreme 1.6 in iprep v9 but get an error "No valid firmware loaded".....I just dl`d it from xbins 5 mins ago......any ideas?

you need to update the ixdef file. Goto your program files folder normaly c:\ find the iprep folder and open it, you will see a folder called resources, open it. over write the ixdef file with the one attached to this thread

then try and load the FW then

ok I had googled it and got the fix.

Ok I have followed the tutorial up to the point of reading the firmware....drawer half open,power cycle ect., and I get to
Reading Bank 0... and it hangs. I have tried a few times but the same thing happens. Where do you think I am going wrong?

Ok .....google really is yer friend doing this,....found a few discussions about Via cards causing similar problems so switched from my VIA card to my mobo sata and the freezing stopped. Flashed it with JungleFlasher in the end and it really was a doddle. Thanks for the help folks.

Okay I dont want to crash this thread but mines is kinda the same issue.... I am using iprep v9 but cant find the ixdef attachment on this thread and on the other thread of know issues for iprep v9.... can someone send me a link or help me find that attachment...
