Can't boot from flash drive
Hey guys. Flashing my first liteon and running intro trouble around every corner. tried jf and it did erase the drive and put it in vendor mode but when I hit the write button jf froze. Ok, time to use irep and dos. Got iprep v10.1 and made my bootable flash drive but can't get my pc to boot from it. After looking further in bios under 'removble drives' the only removable drive is a FLOPPY! I have a dell from 1998 but it flashed hitachis like nobody's biz. Can I write my iprep deal onto a cdr or floppy and will it work? I'm at a standstill. Thanks RHPG

Re: Can't boot from flash drive
I read about the bug with iprep 10.1 so I tried using v009 but it wouldn't take iextreme 1.6. So I used v10.1 and it took iextreme1.6 but I can't boot with a flash drive because my pc is so old. So you are saying that I can not boot with a floppy using 10.1? I do have the key and all other info associated with my drive.NO mate its a bug with that version off IPREP, we are beta testing a new version revert back to IPREP 9 for the time being

Re: Can't boot from flash drive
Hi,
I had the same problem m8, If Iprep wont show your A drive just make your flash drive bootable with all the batch files you need using Iprep then go into your A drive right click and make an MSDOS boot disk then just copy all the files of your usb stick onto your A drive and you will have your IPREP boot disk.
I just did mine last night using this method and it worked for me.
Also on another note IF you already have your key using JF then just spoof you Extreme 1.6 Firmware with it and use DOSFLASH, I found that worked for me.
I hoped this helped you out................

As Gallows said Dos flash is the answer to your problem...go the tut section and look up LITE-on recovery.....this is your key to success.

Re: Can't boot from flash drive
Ok guys. I just setup iprep 10.1 to make a bootable floppy and it worked. I got my pc to bootup from the floppy. As far as puting in dos files from iextreme 1.6, I couldn't find any dos files so I just dropped in the 256k iextreme file then booted up. it prompted me to turn on my drive, half open, sata hooked up and com3 hooked up with probe. Did all that then typed in L74 1234567 12345
then it gave me this:
*******ERROR******
Drive firmware reading failed
*******ERROR******
Double check all your connections and try again
Keep getting one step at a time closer, but its a day at a time. I'm hittin the sack. Night all.

Re: Can't boot from flash drive
To start with COM 3 is the usb to serial port and that wont work in DOS you must use COM 1 or COM 2 and use a SERIAL cable NOT USB, that is only for use in WINDOWS. (I am sure this is right)
Find the program DOSFLASH and download it..
Assuming you got your key before you erased the drive you will have you 4.bin files (key, inqury, identity and dummy) YES?
So open up JF again and load these files in and SPOOF this infomation INTO your EXTREME 1.6 FIRMWARE, then save the file which will be LITE_CFW.BIN.
Now ASSUMING you have got the DOSFLASH PROGRAM which should also contain L-O-ERASE.EXE so check it, create a MSDOS floppy boot disk and then COPY YOUR NEW LITE_CFW.BIN file into it then reboot until you get to the A: prompt.
There will be no need to eject the drive when you use this process.
Just look up the tut for recovering the Liteon drive after freezing to complete the flashing process

Re: Can't boot from flash drive
Switched to com1 and still no deal. My drive is erased so there is nothing to read using iprep 10.1. I can't make a boot disk with earlier versions using iextreme 1.6. What I'm going to do now is just go back to iestreme 1.5 and use iprep 8.6 and follow cofrees tut on drive recovery and with any luck I can get 1.5 flash into it and then 1.6 the right way only using jf for the key and dummy cfw and inq .bins then flash with iprep......if I get that far. correction, when.
