Liteon without CK3? Possible?
Hey guys. Been a while. Busy summer. About to do my first liteon. Is it possible to flash without the CK3 and probe? What sort of soldering needs done also?

Re: Liteon without CK3? Possible?
How do I tell which version I have? The model # is 16D2SWhich lite-on the 7000 series or the 8000 series? the 7000 no you will need the probe ....the 8000 you can't use it
and the part # is X800474-008. Do you mean that if it's an 8000 series, it can't be modded? or it needs a different technique?
Also I have a good 47 hitachi that is modded. Would it be easier to put it in my 360 that harbors the liteon?

I am speaking about the Firmware version....found on the bottom left part of the top label. starts with 7=u need probe... starts with an 8= you do not use the probe.

Re: Liteon without CK3? Possible?
This is the question I'm wondering. Before I go ahead and purchase all of the CK3 and probe etc stuff, do I really need it. I just got my new 360 pro yesterday, have flashed 2 BenQ's before. Everywhere I look it says "Lite on blah blah blah probe"
So you're saying that if I have this 8k series of firmware on my stock lite-on, I only need to do a normal "dump key to computer, copy to iXtreme firmware, dump onto drive, done"? But if I have that 7k series I need to get the probe, CK or Maximus kit or whatever, stick the probe on it and then do the rest?
I just would really love some clarification, because to me at the moment it feels like every lite on requires those extra products.

Everything you just said is correct. If you don't want to spend the money like me, and are willing to go the extra mile and make stuff from scratch that will cost you about five dollars at radio shack, there is a tutorial out there on how to make the probe yourself and use your 360 to power your drive when flashing. They say, however using your 360 to power your drive is risky (I've never had a problem). Also I'm not sure how everyone here thinks of me pointing you to a different website. I don't want to give bad advise or tick anyone off here. They may just want me to post my own tutorial on that here.stayambiguous wrote: But if I have that 7k series I need to get the probe, CK or Maximus kit or whatever, stick the probe on it and then do the rest?

Any thoughts on that guys? I don't want to step on anyone's toes here. I kinda like it here

Re: Liteon without CK3? Possible?
so how do you tell what kind of firmware is on your lite-on, is it on the drive itself? And is the kind that requires no probe an old version, or is that what they're shipping out lately, or is it completely random. I just bought my new box 2 days ago and I'm hoping its the 8 series or whatever, because even though those fancy ck3's look nice, its all a little much, and although I can soder, I'd rather not risk it on a 2 day old box.
I don't understand why this isn't made more obvious, every single lite-on thread I see, the guys trying to teach the newbies automatically assume their drive is one that needs the probe, instead of asking first, thats why I'm curious.
Thank you so much for you help though.

Re: Liteon without CK3? Possible?
As shoot pointed out before, the fwv is located on the drive itself on the bottom left. it will say something like f or fw:7*** or 8***. What ever number it starts with is the version you have. If you bought it a couple days ago, there is a good chance it's a 8 series.

Re: Liteon without CK3? Possible?
Remember guys it's always better to have some form of connectivity kit. Dalecheesy made a really good tutorial on making your own probe. With the 8000 series you have to have a third party program to decrypt the key from the encrypted extraction file.

Re: Liteon without CK3? Possible?
If mine is the 7k series I'll most likely chunk out the cash for a kit eventually, but if its the 8k, all I need to do is use jungleflasher and follow a tut right?
Thanks for all the responses guys.

Re: Liteon without CK3? Possible?
You still need some way to power the drive. You could use the xbox but it's dangerous to the drive and your pc. If you don't ground the 360 case to the pc case you can fry your drive and possible your xbox.

Re: Liteon without CK3? Possible?
Is grounding the only risk using the 360 as a power supply? So far I've been successfull but I always ground, always. Otherwise I wouldn't see a problem.

well man some of us thinkdustman1995 wrote:Is grounding the only risk using the 360 as a power supply? So far I've been successfull but I always ground, always. Otherwise I wouldn't see a problem.
it would be all to easy for M$ to send out a update that lets them see if the console has been powered on without
the dvd drive hooked up.
think about it
why would anyone ever need to do that
unless you are modding it.
as far as im concerned its just one more way they MAY could find us.
so i use a ck3 to power the drive
