Noob Needing Help

Post by BlackDahlia »

Hello!

Just joined here, but I've been visiting the site regularly doing some research before I flash my 360 drive. I couldn't decide to put this topic here or in the "Beginners" section so I just posted here.

I'm looking to flash my BenQ drive. I know how to crack open the 360 and get the DVD drive out. I was thinking about getting the CK3 lite, but since I'm only going to be flashing one drive, two at the most I decided against it. I figure I will just use the 360 as a power source. I was thinking of flashing with iPrep.

Now for my question. I don't have the VIA VT6421A controller card. Instead, I have onboard SATA. It is an Intel chipset. The problem is I'm not sure which port to plug my 360's DVD drive into.

In iPrep I had to hit the "Switch to IDE Based Controllers." I did this as a test so to speak to see if iPrep would read my SATA.

Here is a screenshot from iPrep:

On my onboard Sata connections I have 4 slots. 0,1,2,3.

I have two HDD's hooked up to slots 0 and 1.

Does anyone here know which port I should hook my 360 up to based on the iPrep screenshot? Should I just throw down the cash for a VIA card? If it's possible to flash without it, that would be great. Sorry for the long post. I have plenty of questions. lol.

Thanks for any input.

Install IPREP 9 and do another screen shot so that it will show your primary port

download/file.php?id=614" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for the reply. I installed iPrep9. When I switched to IDE based the ATA channel 1 was the first controller selected, but the primary port was"N/A."

Here is a screenshot for one of the controllers:

And another for a different controller:

Thanks for trying to help.

EDIT: I guess one of the ATA Channel 0 controllers (It shows I have two) has a primary port. Here is the screen.

ATTEMPT to use the contoller on the 1st screen shot primary port FE00........ What you will need to do is look at your ports on the motherboard and see which one is the primary and then use that.

Bit of advice when you use the 360 to power the drive while flashing. You will need to bridge the metal case of the 360 to the bare metal part of your case on your PC, that will give your 360 an earth

EDIT

Just use the contoller and then when you boot into iprep you should see your drive in the list of ports. it should be called benq vad6038

Thanks for the input but none of my onboard SATA ports would recognize the BenQ. I tried with iPrep and Jungle Flasher. Looks like I'll be ordering the VIA controller.

Thanks again.

I was getting ready to order the VIA but it looks like the connector to connect to the PC is on the right side. I would need the connector on the left side. Anyone know where to find one?

Thats the card you need, you plug it into your motherboard upside down, so the top of the card faces the bottom of your case.

I could plug it in upside down and everything would be okay? If so, that's great. My mobo is on the left side of the PC and the card looks to have the connector on the right side. Thanks for the quick reply. I'll go ahead and order it. If it doesn't work upside down then I'll check all my friends and co-workers PC's until I find a PC that will work with the card.
