PC Arkham Asylum Features Deliberate Glitch To Deter Piracy
Copy protection measures have already snared one pirate.

Piracy is a serious problem when it comes to PC games, so it's no surprise that certain copy protection measures were implemented for the upcoming port of Batman: Arkham Asylum. And it seems that those measures have already snared one unwitting victim.

According to MaxConsole, user Cheshirec_the_cat wrote on the Eidos Forums, "I've got a problem when it's time to use Batman's glide in the game. When I hold "," like it's said to jump from one platform to another, Batman tries to open his wings again and again instead of gliding. So he fels down in a poisoning gas. If somebody could tel me, what should I do there.

After another user reminded Chesirec that Arkham Asylum isn't even available on the PC yet, administrator Keir took the time to explain the problem.

"The problem you have encountered is a hook in the copy protection, to catch out people who try and download cracked versions of the game for free," he wrote.

"It's not a bug in the game's code, it's a bug in your moral code."

If you want to pick up a legitimate copy of Arkham Asylum on the PC, it'll be out on September 15.

I seriously doubt they could do that to console games anyways. This guy downloaded a leaked 'cracked' version. Therefore the part of the controls where you hold whatever button to use your batclaw is corrupt, if he had of got the physical disk, copied it onto his computer, all the game data would be there, and work fine. the only problem would be the CD key. Such is the exact same for 360, but we dont need a CD key to play games.

+1 more.

And I also agree with what HaGGard said about the corrupted portion...

Maybe the guy's moral bug is that he just plain can't afford to buy the game!!

The moral glitch is with the game companies expecting the everyday out of work joe/college student/young child to fork out £40-50 for a game that they could easily put an RRP of £15 on and actually end up selling more.

The argument of piracy is what raises the price of games is a mute one, the simple fact is it's the price of games that forces piracy.

I have to agree with cainhunpi, they should do it to all games no matter what platform.
Maybe then, when the console sales slow because no one can afford the games, the RRP of new release games will fall - and that is a good thing.

Actually the 360 does, but it's a universal one across all game's and built into the 360 hardware.
The PS3 also uses a CD-Key of sorts too, it's the encryption key of the BD Media.
