Microsoft and Activision have revealed plans to release a limited edition Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 themed Xbox 360 alongside the multiplatform game's launch on November 10.
Unveiled at a Modern Warfare 2 preview event in Los Angeles, the console will sport an exclusive design inspired by the Infinity Ward developed shooter, a 250GB hard drive, two wireless controllers, a headset and a standard edition of the title.
It will be sold in the US, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Australia and New Zealand. The bundle will retail for an estimated price of $399, but hasn’t been priced outside of the US.
“It is thrilling to bring the exclusive Modern Warfare 2-inspired Xbox 360 console to Call Of Duty fans,” said Albert Penello, senior director of global marketing for Xbox 360. “These fans deserve the biggest Xbox 360 console ever, and we’re delivering with more storage space than ever before and freedom to enjoy all their favourite games and downloadable game add-ons, including the first two Modern Warfare 2 maps that will be available first on Xbox Live.”
Late last month Microsoft announced a series of Xbox 360 price adjustments and plans to phase out the 60GB Xbox 360 Pro model. While the company has not announced plans for the general release of a new SKU, a regular 250GB Xbox 360 could yet be on the way. In August a listing for a 250GB Xbox 360 bundled with Forza Motorsport 3 appeared on Amazon Germany’s website before quickly being pulled. Microsoft has said that the 250GB hard drive featured in the Modern Warfare 2 bundle “is not being sold separately”.
Expected to be one of the bestselling games of the year, Modern Warfare 2 will also be released on PS3 and PC.
