BenQ flashing using Iprep 10.7

Post by bdeadbuddy »

Hey folks,

First i'd like to tell you guys the forum is awesome... Lots of info, great tutos and as far as i've read great answer to question.

So i'm new in the 360 mod/flashing and i've been planing to flash my BenQ after seeing some of your videos.
There's just one thing i'm not sure and i'd like to confirm with you guys.
I don't know if i got confused with all the different videos i've seen, but there's at no moment in the BenQ Iprep 10.7 video that you mention the drive need to be half-open.
My understanding of this was, that to read and write the banks, you need to put the drive in service mode (might be wrong here) by leaving the tray halfly open. Is it because you're using the CK to power cycle the drive that you don't mention or do the Half-open shit ?

Maybe one more question... Which method would you guys recommend with a BenQ drive ? JF, Iprep, DF ?
Iprep 10.7 method looks pretty straghtforward, almost too much to be true and working ;)
Let me know your thoughts

Thanks all

First thanks for joining.

Second, IPrep 10.7 would be the easiest way to flash your BenQ. Sometimes if the tray is not half way it is hard for IPrep to pull the correct information i.e. the drive key. It is hard to achieve this (tray half open) with out the CK3 or other device. It is also risky using the 360 to power the drive. It will and can work using it but does carry a risk, but there is also a risk with the CK3.

Just take your time and follow CoFree's video to a "T" and it will come out successful. Make sure to save the key several places!!!!

Here's the link to his Video Tutorial: http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... 195&t=7668" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you have anymore questions post them up, and have fun!!! :D

I did a BenQ a few days ago. It was my first flash. I would also recommend going with iPrep 10.7. It was a piece of cake following CoFree's video.

When I flashed the BenQ I didn't have to open the tray half way at any time. I just power cycled the drive when it told me to and that was all. I should mention that I wasn't using a connectivity kit. I was using the 360 as a power source.

Thanks guys for your input, much appreciated !!

But all this lead me to another question then. If i don't have a CK, and leave the drive connected on the X360, i just power on/off with the main switch as usual ?
Or do i need to disconnect the power wire in the back of the drive or the X360?

Thanks

That question lead me to buy the CK3, well and I wanted to flash other drives as well. When I was flashing my BenQ, that's where I was having a problem. I believe that you have to pull the power cable out of the back of the drive while the 360 is running. The CK3 is well worth the investment.

Yes, you just power the 360 on/off like normal. No need to disconnect the power from the dvd drive. Leave that plugged in. Only unplug the SATA from the dvd drive and hook the drive up to your SATA controller on the PC.

If you're planning on doing more than a few 360's, then I'd definitely go with the CK3. If you're doing one or two then I would say it's not worth investing in.

I hate me !

So here's the latest...
I Ordered my card Sunday, got it delivered tuesday... amazingly fast
So after work on Tuesday i get all excited, plug in the Sata card and get my PC ready.

After getting the faceplate off, i check the famous wire too see which color it is.
White i see... great it confirm me it's a BenQ

Then after opening the whole shit, i look more closely at the drive and find out it's a damn Lite-on 74.
So came back here to look at Lite-on Tutos to see if there's any big difference in the step.
So i've quit yesterday night, because without the CK3 and the Probe i can't go any further damnit.
I didn't felt like building my own probe, even thought i have the skill to do it, i wouldn'T want to take more chance to screw this up.
So i ordered the CK3 and probe yesterday night and got it shipped today, hopefully i'll get it delivered for friday.
it's supposed to be 18-48 hrs... i have faith !

I think i should be ok and feel safer with the CK3 to power cycle the drive. And i have already 5 people waiting to see the result on mine to get theirs done. I'll be repaying that thing in a blink. !! :)

Do you guys still recommend IPrep 10.7 for lite-on or should i go another route ??
Thanks again for your comments

definitely use iPrep 10.7 and do you know it's a lite-on 74 because you read that off the drive? or are you going by the wiring?

Right now my X360 is all open since tuesday night !
i'm sure 1000% it's a lite-on 74850c, can't be more clear than this !
can't wait to get the kit... hopefully it'll come in tomorrow, as i took Faster delivery.

i'll keep my results posted, thanks for everything on this site... it's been a lifesaver so far with all the info in here !
Keep up the good work hoodies ! :)
