please help with passkey 79 installation

The soldering points seem very tiny and close together! I'm afraid that the solder will touch two pins at the same time and am hesitant to start. Is there a soldering iron available that has a very thin tip?

The tutorial seems a bit confusing, can anyone provide any better information as to the best method to solder the chip?

Bwahahahaahah, good luck man! None of us has ever done it precisely for that reason. I would take it to an electronics tech and get them to do it. Let us know if you figure it out and what you did so others on this site can learn from your experience.

i can solder and i want mess with it.
The thing is,ok the soldering is small,but if you cant do it your self you are introuble.
Soldering that chip in falls under the same laws that got some of our friend in trouble some time back.They were solding in wii mod chips and big brother came a calling,
I afraid if you cant do it your self you are going to not get this v79 modded.

I would hunt around for someone that know how to solder. If you have a school in the neighborhood that has an electronics shop, you might even con the teacher into doing it in exchange for letting him do it as a class project. I've done that before at my local vocational college. If not, then you might have to scout an installer and pay a fee or something, but yes, they are (IMHO) very difficult to solder in properly. If your not comfortable doing it yourself, for sure get someone else to do it.

Sounds like I'll have to get in there and try it. If I fail, and mess up the drive, can I replace it with another trype of drive? If so, which drive would you recommend and how would I do that?

that is the problem.You have to get it right.
The only way to get the key from the v79 drive is with the passkey.
You have to have the key from your v79 to put in a new dvd drive.

so if you can get the passkey in. then you are better just to flash the v79
if you do get your key make sure to keep a copy just in case you have to put a different drive in one day.

cofree is very, very correct. You have to be able to get a valid dump of your drives firmware in order to replace it because each drive is married to each 360 by the DVD drive key. You put a different drive in a 360 that don't have the same key, it won't boot games. Thats why its very important in this particular situation to know what your doing.
