crazy red lights!

Post by Morphx2 »

Hi,

For some reason, my 360 is giving me the 3 red lights, but its sporadic! Playing MUA2, it froze, then i reset it, and it gave 3 red lights. I already did the x-clamp fix one time back in December. So today I opened it back up, did the same thing, and when it says to overheat it, it was giving me all green; not even the 3 red lights. So I let it heat up anyway for 20 minutes, then cooled it for 15, then put it all back together, brought it upstairs. Started up fine...started MUA2, in the same spot it froze, restart, 3 red lights came back on! I let it stay off for around 10 min, then it started up fine again, and then it froze once more and 3 red lights...

Any ideas? I used Arctic Silver Ceramique since thats all the store had. Its what I used in December and its been fine though.

:(

No your thermal paste should be fine, unless you ended up with a bad batch or something. I would try adjusting the torque on the screws holding down the motherboard to the metal frame. And then try adjusting the screws to the heat sinks.

with the motherboard on the case, think i should loosen them? When i unscrewed them, they were really tight, so i put it back really tight as before

Yeah I would definitely try adjusting each screw one at a time with the 360 on. Keep in mind that you should definitely have a grounding strap on.

I will give it a shot this weekend.

On a side note, my friend said he didnt install any modchips and just worked on the DVD drive; is that possible? I thought you had to buy a modchip as well.

Yup, never came across a modchip yet. Everyone uses programs to flash the ixtreme firmware over nowadays so your mates 100% correct.
