Want to swap an Samsung Ms25 to a Benq??

Post by roddyrex »

I'm interested in swapping my ms25 to a Benq from eBay. Is this possible?? If so are there any tutorials on how to do this? I have my original firmware saved to disk so do I have to use iprep to dump the new Benq drives firmware and key and then do a key swap. Just looking for the steps I need to take to do this. My ms25 is noisy and sometimes doesn't read very good. Is the Benq the best drive to get or should I get another Samsung? I haven't bought a drive yet but I see you can buy replacements on eBay (brand new). Any suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks.

Yes, I 2nd that...this forum has the BEST support. I've tried all the other ones I could find (Xbox-Scene, 360Mods, Team Xecuter & X-Projects) and they don't come close to Robinhood's Playground!--Maybe it's because between Cofree and Sadalius they handle most of the questions!

I thought Xbox-Scene would be one of the ones I'd find most answers in...but even though they seem to have more users than other forums and even though there are thousands of threads (every day it seems!)...I hardly ever get answers there. Also, the email notification doesn't work there...I'd never get emails letting me know I had an answer...and I tried updating it several times...that made it nearly impossible to remember where the original question was!

Yes, it's possible to swap them. You have to get a dump of both drives. Make sure to keep track of which one came from the samsung and which one came from the benq. Then just open your benq firmware with 360 firmware toolbox 4.6. It will show you the key from that firmware. Make sure that it's not all 0's, F's or just a lot of one character. A valid key will appear as a random string of numbers and letters. Then check the samsung firmware. After making sure that the samsung key is valid, highlight the key and copy it. Then re-open the benq firmware and highlight the key and paste in the samsung key and click replace key. Then click tools->Spoof Firmware, then choose the Samsung listing that matches your drive, ms-25 in this case, and click apply spoof. Close out of firmware toolbox and your now ready to create your hacked firmware and flash it.

Hope this helps!!

I would take a Samsung or a Benq over a Hitachi if given the choice. Benq and Sammies are pretty much equal in my eyes except for the fact that if you get a spare sammy, you can flash it with the 0800.bin and make it useful on the PC and be able to rip games like an SH-D162C drive. But for use in the 360, they are pretty much the same in performance.

Here is a quick video I did of taking an ms-25 and benq firmware and replace the key and spoof the benq to the samsung firmware: CLICK ME

Once you get that far, then your ready to create the hacked benq firmware and flash it. Spoofing any other drives works the same as this video as well, just use the proper firmwares and choose the right settings is the only difference.

Sadalius, I got a motherboard with original BIN but no dvd drive (Samsung MS-28 original BIN) also I have an already flashed dvd drive (samsung MS-25) from a bad 360 3ROD and I don't have the original firmware from this one.

How can I spoof or if I can even spoof my ms-25 drive when I don't have its original bin or key, yet I do have the other motherboard original dvd drive BIN (MS-28)

Thanks in advance man, I need some help I still can't figured this one out and I've searched a lot of places for answers.

Well, you have to at least have the firmware from the drive that came from your working 360. You see, each 360 has a DVD key and the drive thats in it has to have that key information. If you have the key from that drive, then you can inject it into the firmware of another drive and effectively replace it.

Let me give you an example. Lets say in your situation, in your current working 360 you have a hitachi 47D. For what ever reason, you want to replace that hitachi with a samsung ms-25. You would need to at least dump the firmware from the 47 to get the key. Once you have the key, it doesn't even matter if you dump the other drives firmware, you could just go here http://teammodfreakz.hostwq.net/_menue/Firmware.php and download a key blanked firmware for the ms-25 and use firmware toolbox to put the key in it and spoof it, you would have to spoof it because the 360 would need to think that you still have the hitachi 47. Then if you wanted to create a hacked firmware for the drive, you could and then flash it, or just leave it stock and flash it that way. Once its flash, the firmware of the drive reports as a hitachi 47, with the key from the 47, the console is happy. This is just a general run down, if you need more specific information, let me know what drive that you have that currently works and what your wanting to replace it with, the title of the thread is swap a ms25 to a benq, but now your talking about an ms-25 and an ms28.

First of thanks for your help and fast reponse on my question, also sorry about posting about MS-25 to MS-28 in a thread about Benq to MS-25 I did not pay attention I was just looking for the dvd flashing threads. My specs are the following: good drive is an already flashed with Xtreme firmware MS-25 with bad MS-25 motherboard an no original.bin/keys, good motherboard with original bin/ keys is a MS-28 but no dvd drive with it. I started doing what you said earlier but I am having trouble flashing the samsung drive. I have only flashed my other 360 that has a BenQ drive with no problem but this samsung when I get to the part right after I selected my port (via PCI 6421), turn off the 360, press enter, wait 10-15 seconds, I turned the 360 on again but nothing happens at all no reading, flashing, errors, nothing happens it just seems to get stuck right in this part. I don't know what is going on.

ok, so you've got one good drive (ms-25) that came from a bad mobo but no dump for it. You've got a good mobo with no drive, but a dump of the drive that came matched with it (ms-28). You should be able to make this work if you can get it to flash. Are you using iprep to try and flash the ms-25 with? If not, you might consider doing so, the 6421 mtkflash files needs to be patched to work with the 6421.

Let me know what your using to flash with and I'll try and whip up some instructions for you.

Yes, I flashed the files with iprep's latest version just like I did with my BenQ 360 and the MKTflash is patched. I don't know why it does not flash or does anything at all after turning the 360 back after the 10-15 sec time, maybe my VIA 6421 is going out even though it shows fine in storage devices on windows.

ok, I want to make sure that you've got everything on track up to the flashing part. You've taken the ms-28 dump that you have and created a hacked firmware from it, and now your trying to flash it onto the ms-25 drive (that already has xtreme fw on it) that you have, is this correct?

OK, then yeah, all you have to do is get it flashed and it should work. Are you connecting the ms-25 to the same port that you connected the benq to previously? Might even let us know what your setup is, by that I mean what your using to power the drive and how you have everything else setup. If you still have the benq drive, you might try and dump the firmware from it to kinda test the card.
