I've tried Jflash, which doesn't recognize the Samsung HS-943 drive, and I can't install the driver manually due to the requirement for a 32bit system.
I'm now trying Iprep, but it starts right off with device not found error.
Xbox is turned on and shows green light, sata cable connected to primary sata port onboard my motherboard. I have a chipset that says Northbridge, but also inside settings shows VIA, so I'm actually not sure which it is.
Should I see the drive as a normal DVD rom within windows, and any ideas why I can't see it with either util? Do I need to go purchase a sata card?
Thanks in advance for any help....

I ended up purchasing a via pci card having a similar problem, except with a BenQ.Youd have to check the list of known compatable chipsets.

If you plan on using Jungleflasher:
Try installing Windows 32bit, I was fumbling around with 64bit versions and I eventually gave up and just set my computer to dual boot Windows 7 64bit and Windows 32bit for flashing.
Windows 32bit hasnt had a problem yet, it runs flawlessly

If neither JF nor iPrep can see your drive while using your on board sata ports, I would spring for the via card. If your on a 64 bit system, you can use iPrep, or install a 32 bit version of XP and run jungle flasher on it.
