Bad Flash MS28

Post by Dan7712 »

Hello.

I have came over here seems as 360mods couldn't really help me :(

For starts I have a Samsung MS28 drive, and VIA chipset along with the 360 power adapter molex thing to power my drive.

I have the OFW but when I tried to flash it with the hacked version my PC crashed leaving me with no firmware on my drive. I done the Lite-On erase to totaly get it back to square one which many people have told me to do, but I can't seem to get my drive into the right state. It stays at 0x80. Not 0x70. Any idea what I can do? I am totally stumped with this one. I have tried using dosflash32 and JF but no joy.

Thanks

I thought Samsungs/BenQ's were unable to function without FW on the drive.

So pretty much that drive is dead because there is no firmware on it? I mean, I have the OFW but I can't get anything back on there!

Well dont panic, as long as you have the OFW your fine. Worst case scenario you will need to buy a new $20.00 drive.

You'll have to wait for one of the other guys to confirm, but im pretty sure this drive is dead.

No they wont work, with no firmware then the drive dosnt know what to do. You can erase a benq from a bad flash. i dont know away for a sammy.

Assuming you have a bricked drive, you can do 1 of 2 things (or both?)

1) Buy a new PCB, and just do a straight swap, then flash the drive like normal. Just dont erase the FW, the reason why when you flash a samsung it erases bank 0, then writes bank 0, then erases 1, then writes 1 etc... is because the drive cannot function with no FW on it.

Here is a link for a new PCB:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/XBOX-360-DVD-DRIVE-P ... 286.c0.m14" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

2) Buy a brand new drive. This is the more long term solution, and only about 5-10 dollars more expensive. In my experience sammy's like to break, laser's like to wear out and drives like to get stuck. The best thing about them is they are EASY to flash.

Here is the link for a new drive:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Brand-New-BenQ-VAD60 ... 286.c0.m14" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My favorite drives are BenQ's they are one of the quietest (still louder than lite-on's) are flashed the exact same way as a samsung (but much faster), and dont have very many problems.
(You can buy any drive and do a swap but I prefer BenQ's, theyre cheap and there are lots around.)

Thanks for your help!

I have found a CD that apparently unbricks any drive... Not sure if it works or not, I am having problems booting the bloody thing as my PC is being a bugger and not booting any CD :?

Typical eh?

I wouldn't trust that. Those sites are all crap. I was on youtube a while back and saw all these videos about "xboxiso" "360games" "xboxgames" etc telling people you can download and burn the games and play them without your console being modded... Turns out the sites were filled with viruses, (or at least all the comments and video responses suggested that...)

That's what I was going to say. Do not trust that. The only drive that has the ability to un-brick is the lite-on.
