Lite-on via driver question

Post by intheshade »

I'm finally ready to mod a lite-on. I've got a dell with an on-board sata. So far I have been able to mod every drive with it. I'm curious if I need to delete the via drivers.? The jungle flasher tutorial says to delete them if you have a 6421 via sata card. I don't want my computer to freeze up on me. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 530s.

this cpu has an onboard sata,
Dell Inspiron 530s.

This is a probe I got off ebay for $15

I am going to install this on an older cpu that has windows xp, but its coming from China...

I found the driver jf says I should delete even though I dont have the 6421 via card installed, should I delete it or leave it?
So my question is should i delete/rename the driver on my dell? I'm kinda worried about the dell freezing.

UPDATE

I was able to flash my lite on drive. I flashed it on an old hp computer. The 6421 via sata card finally arrived in the mail. I renamed the via driver. It worked perfect. I used an xbox for the power supply and the probe i ordered off ebay worked flawlessly. Thanks guys.

Don't delete them, rename them so that you can re-rename them when you are done.

I think renaming them would be the best option also. Do you think I should rename the drivers on my dell? It has an onboard sata, I do not intend to install the 6421 chipset on the cpu.

DO NOT rename the drivers on your dell. Motherboards that work with JF do not have the freezing problem. The problem is specific to non compatible montherboards + Via cards. IE: My Asus Mobo + my via card. Had I not disabled my drivers, my comp would lockup everytime I tried to flash a lite-on, and would give me problems while trying to flash other drives.

Thanks for the answer to my question HaGGardSmurf. I am still a little scared to flash this lite-on. For some reason i think its gonna freeze up my dell. I visit another forum often and see so many people brick their lite-on.

If your able to flash with your motherboard, you should be fine. As long as you get a good dump of the drive, worst case senario is you will need to buy a new $20.00 drive. Even if the drive locks up and your comp freezes, you can just do the recovery method, it works just about every time!

Im using Verbatim, they were made in Singapore. I might not do the pot calibration. Im only getting that error on NBA 2k10. i've seen other people on the net having problems with that game too. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get into that game anyway.
