Help! Drive flashed correctly, but does not read backups.
Help! Drive flashed correctly, but does not read backups.
Hey. I flashed a Hitachi 47 drive on my friends 360 with jungle flasher. Everything went correctly, i got it to mode-b, i dumped the firmware, added the hacked firmware, and everything flashed correct. I put the game in and it does not read. It will read a real game, but not the backup. Is there something wrong with anything? I just dont get why its happenin

Being that its a 47 its definitely the laser. Drives with weak lasers may still function fine with original games, as the drives are designed to read the games, and the games are pressed with million dollar equipment.
When you burn a backup on a 5 dollar DVD with a 20-50 dollar dvd burner, its not as high quality as the original MS disks.
If you are sure you burned good games, with verbatim's at 2.4x and have flashed the drive, you can buy a new laser and do a straight swap, or buy a new drive. Lasers are about half the price of a brand new drive, so if you want to save the $$ get a new laser, if you dont mind spending an extra $10 get a new drive, and spoof it into the console you should be fine.
Also, Hitachi's and Samsung's share the same laser, and are interchangeable, so if you find a cheap samsung laser, you can use it in your drive. (Best site to buy from is eBay)

^^^ that is great advise, however a pot calibration will save you a couple bucks. A good place to set the dvd laser pot is at 3.2
