Want to take out my Samsung MS28 and put in a Hitachi59

Post by WopBaBaLooBop »

Hey guys, I found this awesome website a few months ago but found this to be the first time one of the FAQs didn't answer my question. :)

My MS28 sounds like a jet engine and when the disk stops reading it sounds like a grinder. The Hitachi 59 360 has red ringed but the drive worked fine before that. I can easily dump and flash each drive without issue.

I know, from reading the awesome guides here, I have to take the key from my MS28 drive and put it into the Hitachi 59 firmware, then spoof the Hitachi 59 to make the 360 think it's a MS28. I am aware I have to use the Firmware Toolbox for this. However, I am quite confused.

I got the key for the original MS28 drive fine. But which Hitachi firmware do I paste it into? I have the "now.bin" file and the bin from before the flash. But since I plan to play backed up games on this Hitachi, I really don't know which bin file to apply the firmware to!

Finally, how would/should I then flash the sppofed Hitachi firmware to the Hitachi drive? iXtreme uses a RAR file full of .bin files, and there seems to be no way I can tell the drive to use whatever bin file I want.

I'd really appreciate anyone who can shed light on this problem!

now get the firmware pack you want to use(hit ixtreme v1.4)i would think
unzip the rar file
in the folder you will see a "fw pack"
unzip that in a folder
in there is all the firmware you will need to make sure you get the right one and the speed you want to use.
after that i would wait for sadalius to get with you for the how to.

Yeah, I've checked in that RAR but there are so many it could be. There's even something about 59B which I've never even heard of! There's nothing obvious like HITACHI59_12X.BIN or anything like that. I mean there's close, but nothing that stands out and there's more than a few that can qualify.

Thanks. I already saw that and like most spoofing tutorials does not explain going from a Samsung *TO* a Hitachi, which seems to be a bit more confusing, at least to me.

Spoofing the drives is easy. The tricky part depends on how your going to flash them. Since your going to be replacing a samsung with a hitachi, this will be very easy. For the easiest way you'll need firmware toolbox, the latest version, either slax 2.1 or a connectivity kit for mode b. A movie dvd or an original 360 game disk.

First step, get your samsung dump. Once you get that, the hardest part is actually over.

Next step, get the original fw for your hitachi.

After that, open your samsung firmware with firmware toolbox and copy the key.

Then open your hitachi FW with firmware toolbox and paste the key and click replace. Then click tools->spoof firmware and choose Samsung TSH943A MS28 and click apply spoof. At this you have a stock hitachi firmware that would report as a samsung MS28 if you were to flash it. But your not done just yet.

Next, click tools->Smart Hack Patcher. A window will open up and tell you to make sure that you have an origianl firmware open, click OK, now choose where you want to save your hacked FW and what you want to name it in the first section. In the second section, choose the rule set that matches you 59 drive and the speed patch that you want, an example would be iXTREME14_036-0059_8x and click Generate File, and it will build your hacked firmware and it will ask you if you would like to open it. Choose yes.

Now, click tools->Direct Drive Flash->Differential Flash (PATCH), at this point, it will ask you to insert a DVD movie or an original 360 game. Once you do, click ok. Choose your drive in the top drop down menu if it isn't already, then since this is a v59, check the Use classic mode box and click read and detect differences and the Flash this Sectors area should populate. Once it does, click Start Flashing and it should flash your spoofed/hacked firmware to the drive and you should be able to use it in the 360 that the samsung came from.

Hope this helps!!

Wow. Worked like a charm.

Seriously, every guide out there gave the directions on replacing the key but none explained how to then flash it. Thank you so, so much. This website rocks. I can't believe how fast you guys replied.

Thanks again :)

Glad it worked for you. The process is basically the same for any of them. First you get your original firmwares, swap the key and spoof it. Create your hacked firmware and flash it. The key is knowing how to get your originals and how to flash the drive that your dealing with. Other than that, its a walk in the park!!

Hey! Sorry to bump my own thread but I didn't want to start another.

I have an MS28 I accidentally flashed the wrong key to. Luckily I still have the original unmodified firmware for it. How do I flash that back to the drive so it works again? I tried using iprep, but it doesn't like using firmwares that I paste the key into.

I'd appreciate any help again :D
