so, im trying cofree's method of recovery from "recover a 360 lite-on dvd drive _NEW" and at the W lite_cfw.bin part it erases OK but freezes at writing bank 0...
I've read around and couldn't find anything, maybe I'm just a bad searcher, I don't know.
I used iprep 10.7 to make my bootable with these files:

dosflash
autoexec
config
info
iprep
l83
lite_cfw.bin
dummy.bin
firmtool
l-o-eras
dosflash.typ
litetool

I used the lite-on 1.6 firmware to load in iprep to make the boot, but deleted the file in the boot disk.

maybe my lite_cfw.bin isn't correct which is why it's freezing when it writes?
I'm also booting the drive from the 360, so when cofree says to power off the drive, I just unplug the dvd power and leave the xbox on.

any and all help is appreciated, i've spent many hours on this bad boy already. Brand new xbox too, I haven't even picked what country I'm from yet haha.

ok, i think i figured out my problem. when making the dummy.bin i didn't do a power cycle after the first half-tray open part, which probably resulted in a bad dummy.bin and in turn resulted in a bad lite_cfw.bin. when i open JF and open source firmware and try to load lite_cfw.bin it says "this is not a valid source fw file." but if i load the dummy.bin it loads up ok. So, I got dummy.bin inquiry.bin and identify.bin, what the hell can I do with these three? lol, I don't have the key.bin. I kinda made one in JF dvdkey32, but I don't think that's the right one. My lite-on dead? I can erase the drive with dosflash16 and even dosflash32, dosflash32 reports my drive as status 0x72. But I don't have a valid firmware to write to it. jesus, and i thought i followed all the directions

I'm in the same boat with my 1st liteon 8385. Let me know, if u get it working. Commando helped me with the liteon 7435 and they are both working fine. I think my 8385 are the ones that are not flashable.

I got mine to work, if u are flashing liteon 8385 make sure u are using the green power cable and not the red one with the probe for ck3 kit. I knew my key was good, but I did not realize that the cable would make diff. when flashing and it does. Only use the probe cable for the liteon 73XX.
