lite-on w/vendor=hl-dt-st properties in jf
I have a lite-on drive that i want to flash. When I hook it up to jungleflasher, it does not say the drive is plds. it says hl-dt-st under the vendor and drive name is dvd-rom gdr3120l. This drive has been flashed and repaired before, but not by me. Is it possible that a hitachi drive is inside a lite-on case? it has a benq/lite-on style tray. I just finished re-modding my lite-on, so i know how its done, but this has thrown me for a loop. Any help is appreciated.

Yeah the board inside the drive could have been replaced or something since you said it has been repaired. Flash it as a Hitachi then

ok, so if it is a hitachi, how do i know which one it is, and which method do i use to flash it with jungleflasher?
Re: lite-on w/vendor=hl-dt-st properties in jf
well it tells you which model it is on the drive lable. but when you hook it up and run jungleflasher it should tell you as well. once you know which drive it is choose the corresponding tutorial from here guidesexplicit.muscle wrote:ok, so if it is a hitachi, how do i know which one it is, and which method do i use to flash it with jungleflasher?

First problem is the casing is a lite-on but showing up as a Hitachi. Does JF show the individual model? I didn't think it did that.iamwatt wrote:well it tells you which model it is on the drive lable. but when you hook it up and run jungleflasher it should tell you as well. once you know which drive it is choose the corresponding tutorial from here guidesexplicit.muscle wrote:ok, so if it is a hitachi, how do i know which one it is, and which method do i use to flash it with jungleflasher?

It could also be that the drive is spoofed as a hitachi... I doubt if whoever this is had a hit without a case, and just swapped the guts into a lite-on drive.
Eject the tray and take a look at this:

The definitive way to tell is to open the drive, and look at the board.
Hitachi:

Lite-on:

lol no bigs. From haggard's picture, it does look like JF shows the individual model of the hitachi drives. Interesting

i took the drive cover off, and it matches the lite-on pic haggard posted. Im so damn confused now. Which do I flash it as??? The guy who flashed it before replaced the drive, and im guessing he made the liteon read as a Hitachi, maybe cuz it originally had a hitachi. I dont know what drive was originally in it cuz it wouldnt read any 360 games, only regular dvds and cds. Im gonna try to flash it with hit firmware and hopefully im not gonna screw it up.

No no no, its a spoofed drive.
Its a lite-on drive, you will need to flash it like a lite-on. You will need to keep it spoofed, so when you dump the FW and open your target FW (lite-on 1.6) click the spoof source to target button, and it should say spoofed as: <Drive> you should see the FW revision there...
So just go ahead and follow a lite-on flashing guide, but you will not need to probe the drive, just dummy from ixtreme.

so do i do it EXACTLY like cofree's video, except i load the hitachi firmware instead of the liteon firmware? This is how I did my first liteon drive.

And if I put the hit firmware, which one is ix1.51? I downloaded the fw from xbins, and the folder has 31 .bin files in it.

how do I know which fw to use? I see 4 different fw's for the hit 78 in the file I downloaded from xbins
Re: lite-on w/vendor=hl-dt-st properties in jf
Im sure you still need to use the lite-on firmaware not the hitachi one. The drive is spoofed so it responds as a hitachi but the firmware has to be lite-on or the drive wont function.
