Flashing Hitachi v47DJ on JF v1.66b?

Post by Ivrit007 »

What is the easiest way to dump and flash a Hitachi v47DJ using my CK3 Pro.
I haven't done one of these older drives in some time.

Could ShootSteel's Tutorial on using JungleFlasher v1.66b on a Hitachi v79 work?
http://robinhoodsplayground.com/forum/v ... 195&t=7781

Some things are specific to that version of Hit in the video but can I use JF 1.66b?

Reason I ask is I am having a hard time searching for a good video tutorial for flashing the Hitachi v47 on this site.

Also, iX 1.51 is the best one to use with a Hit v47?

Thanx for the help.

Ah, ok.

So that tutorial will also work on the v47?

Great then I will just follow that Tutorial then.

I thought this was going to be easy. It should have been right?

Anyway, I followed the video with exception to using the 79 Unlock CD.

I did as follows:
1. Ejected the tray 3x before turning JungleFlasher on.

2.Turn on JungleFlasher and goto Hitachi GDR3120 Tab. The Port Properties look good showing my Drive and
F/W Rev: 0047.

3. Click Send Mode-B , It runs and says No Hitachi Drive found (like it should)

4. Eject tray on CK3 and then click on Send Mode-B again. Drive closes.
in status window below JungleFlasher it says Hitachi Drive found.

5. I click on Read To Source to Dump the drive.

Once I do that The JungleFlasher status window reads Drive rev undetermined, Aborting!

I restarted everything and tried to do this again, but this time i cant get JungleFlasher to tell me Hitachi Drive Found after the 2nd Send Mode-B button.

I just didn't screw-up this drive did i?

It seems the "Drive rev undetermined, Aborting!" status is the result of one of 2 things.

1. Trying to dump the drive using WinAPI but not having the correct drive selected in the Top Right drop down box.
Fix: Try closing JungleFlasher, scanning in Device Manager and reopening JungleFlasher.

or

2. Trying to dump a v79 that hasn’t been 79unlocked
....but this is a v47 and I did not use the unlock CD. I didn't have to right?

sooooo... I closed JungleFlasher, did a scan in
Device Manager and re-open JungleFlasher, -Nothing!

Next I left my drive tray Ejected, and turned off my PC with drive still powered on my CK3. I unplugged all my PC's Rom drives. Then restarted my PC. When I opened JungleFlasher this time it looked the same.
Port Properties section reads the Drive as detected as like before but still in the Drive menu on the right of JungleFlasher, I did not see the HL-DT-ST (Hitachi Drive)

I made sure seeing as this was an v47 that I choose Classic in Transfer Method.
This time I checked Use Port IO and then clicked on Send Mode-B.

Wow, now in the status info at bottom I see that JF is saying Mode-B Done!.

Damn! I still don't have a drive letter assigned to this Hitachi.
In the Drive section I should see my Hitachi's drive somthing like this: X:\[HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR3120L0047]
That last part of the drive matching my Hitachi Drives Firm ware (0047).

Ok, Im stuck again.
Back to the books....brb.

Oh wait.
Is my Drive stuck in Mode-B?

I restarted JungleFlasher and clicked Send Mode-B like if I was following the video again.
It quickly shows inquiry of drive and says Mode-B Done!
Then Scans for Hardware changes and the No drive found again....
So what all I wrote above is useless. I still cant detect the drive in windows.
I need to find the procedure to make my drive show in Device Manager.

Help please....

See below.

Thank you the help on this Ivrit007.......wait that was me ^__^

Anyway, I found out that my PC does not like the PortIO way of Mode-B so I went and installed/activated the AVI SATA card drivers Rebooted, and I then switched to VIA Ports only on the DVD32Key Tab on JungleFlasher 1.66b and then on the Hitachi GDR3120 Tab clicked the Use Win API,
Refreshed my Device Device manager then went through the Send Mode-B steps and clicked the Refresh in the Drive section of the Hitachi GDR3120 Tab.
This worked for me. The mounting of my Hitachi drive was now vidable in windows and I was able to continue the JungleFlasher tutorial.

What a pain in the ars!
So to those who may have this same issue as I did above thy this method. I was thinking that I would have been able to use the Port IO but was mistaken and wasted a lot of time trying to figure it out.

Oh, and don't forget to remove those VIA SATA drivers before you Mod your next Lite-On drive
