I've looked all over the net for help with this one. I'm trying to update my dashboard using a thumb drive and the xbox website says to put the files in the root of the flash drive. I've copied the files to the drive (not sure if it is the root or not) and when I put it in the xbox 360, nothing happens. Does someone know what I am doing wrong when I copy the files to the usb drive?
It is FAT32 formatted and nothing else is on the drive.
Thanks.

Have you tried burning a disk with the update on it?

I burned 2 cd's with the update and both say the same thing when you put them in the xbox "mixed media disc". Any suggestions on how to get the update?

Did you download the file from M$?
Are you sure your xbox is not already fully updated?
Did you unzip the file?
Did you keep the file structure intact?
Why do you want to update? Do you have left 4 dead 2? Can you rent it? (Has the latest update on the disk...)

Re: updating my 360 dashboard with a usb thumb drive
I dont need to update, I just wanted to see if I could do it. I'll rent the game and do it that way. I downloaded everything from MS and kept the file structure intact (or at least I think) after unzipping the file. I'll keep toying around with it and see if I figure it out...thanks for the help.

If your box is fully updated, that could very well be the problem. The last update was released on live on like the first week in november.
