Flash LiteOn 83850c Help / Spoof my old benQ?

Post by durrigible »

Hey to all,

First off, my apologies for a really weird subject line. I've got such a ridiculous situation going on with this flash that I'm now forced to pour my heart out on the forum here hoping someone can come up with a solution for me.

Basically, I had a 7xxxx liteon drive which I was told you absolutely cannot mod without using a Connectivity Kit. Unfortunately, I want to mod my 360 cuz I don't have money to waste at the current time in my life on $50 parts or games. Because I haven't had the money needed to just purchase a CK, I swapped my 7xxxx series LiteON 360 with someone's newer 83850c 360. The MF Date is July 2009. From what I heard from JF irc when I got the 360 a month or so ago, it IS possible to flash these...

After hearing from people in JF irc that you can do it, I spent the next 8 hours trying to figure it out. Keep in mind I've flashed with iPrep before on BenQ drives (which is the easiest thing with computers I've ever done) but never encountered a solid process for doing this on the newer LiteOn drives (presumably the most difficult as of yet). I'm no newb to the process.

I am not entirely sure how to check if my drive in particular is version1 or version2, but I am positive my inability to flash the drive (without a CK, mind you) comes from my inability to keep the drive bay ejected. I've tried every 'half-open' method out there. Like I said, I tried on this one drive for 8 hours. No matter how many times I try to open the tray and disconnect power from the MB, if the tray is ejected at all, it immediately retracts the tray when I plug back power back in to the MB. The process is quite different with a CK, therefore tut. vids have not helped. If I stick with this drive, does anyone have any ideas / tutorials / videos / advice for me on how I can get this drive done without using a CK?

My secondary question is, should I be unable to move forward with the drive I currently have... how easy, now knowing my situation and lack of a CK, would it be for me to spoof my old BenQ drive that was part of a RROD 360 from last year? This BenQ drive I have of course needs to be updated with wave4 firmwares and what not, but it never gave me a shred of grief. The only issue I had with the box was the RROD. I'm pretty sure the old MB in that one got burned up real bad (lots of visible heat damage on the board itself, and I got it 2nd hand). It was only a matter of time. However, the drive itself still works fine. Do you think I can transfer it over to my new rig and take out the troublesome LiteOn83850?

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST. Thanks to all who read the whole thing. I lay my heart and soul before you guys here. I've been unable to play a new game for 5 months since my old box RROD'd... and I simply cannot wait any longer without asking you guys here.

Thanks,

Thanks for confirming that I can't spoof my BenQ without getting info off the 8series LiteOn I have. That produces at least a bit of progress. I'm confused on why you say that I won't be able to get it off my LiteOn drive without a CK3 though. I've had numerous people confirm for me that you don't have to have a connectivity kit in order to work this drive or any other, aside from the 7 series LiteOn's which DO require them without a doubt. What I'm saying I guess is, thank you, but that doesn't answer my question or help in any way. I'm positive it can be done, I need someone who knows how to or has done it to hopefully step up and offer a few words.

I'm pretty thoroughly disappointed that absolutely no one else has commented or replied to this. I thought that after all my searching for a place filled with expert level modders that this board would be the best place to look for help. Apparently I was wrong.

The comment even about some liteon can be flashed and some can't is still a lie, anyway. I've seen threads on here with the moderators talking about other moderators who have done it. It would seem some people just don't want to divulge their process.

well
WE are thoroughly disappointed that you would not think enough of the site to talk about not buying games on the board. ;)

the problem is this line.

once i read that line
i did not post and most of the staff want.

that being said
i will offer this.

you can flash all driver with out a ck3 kit
but
its such a pain in the ass we dont even care to talk about it

you are going to have to get your key from the 7400 dvd drive that came in your console originally.
then you can spoof in what ever drive you would like
with a 7400 you will have to use a probe or solder the r707 point.
here is the video guide on flashing a 7400.
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... 195&t=7669" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

but
once you go through all the trouble to get the key from your dvd drive you should just go head and flash it
the hard part is getting the key

if you have a 8300 that is made after june 09 (i think) it will be a pain to flash anyway

ok
i think i did not read
and understand till i reread your post

did you give your whole console in trade for a console with a 8300 dvd drive
(if so bad move,if it a july 09)

you will have to cut traces on the dvd pcb bord to dump the key and flash that drive

i would do your best to get your old console back
if at all possible.

yes there are ways to flash
a new 8300 and the 9000 dvd drives
but we have ever few that have messed with one
and have not started support for them
other than a few small post
