broken benq drive
hello all i was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem... my mate just gave me his xbox with a broken benq dvd drive, its never been flashed before so he doesn't have the drive key or orignal firmware which i could flash a replacement benq or hitachi drive that i own. is there any way i could get the key from the broken drive? the drive wont eject so i cant get it in vendor mode so jungleflasher can recognise it!!
any help would be much appreciated

Re: broken benq drive
You can try to manual eject the drive, dont know if that will work but you can try it.
Have you tried to dump the drive with dosflash?
Whats wrong with the drive? If its a hardware problem you can just buy a new benq and swap the pcb's and its good to go. If he tried to flash it but a bad flash occurred or he fried the drive while trying to plug it in or something like that then its probably done for.

Re: broken benq drive
i had a similar problem with a benq drive that would not eject.
this might sound strange but i unscrewed/opened the drive and rubbed brut aftershave all over the rubber band inside, using a tweezer and tissue. after an hour or two i screwed it back together and it started ejecting without any problem .

Re: broken benq drive
i've tried dosflash32 and it doesn't seem to recognise the drive. swapping the pcb sounds interesting. is there anyway to tell if this will work (a hardware problem as you say), my drive isn't responding at all so wouldn't that suggest that the pcb is nackard, so putting this in a working drive wont fix this problem. anyone know where is the key stored on the pcb, maybe i could swap this chip!!

Re: broken benq drive
just an up date on the problem, i think it just got bigger. i just opened the broken benq drive and had a look at the pcb and underneath the largest chip on the the left there is a small hole that has been blown out!!! i would say the pcb is wacked. so i would say my only hope is to desolder the key storage chip (any ideas which one it is?) and attach it to my workin drive. not easy me thinks. anyone done this before?
