Sony Pulls Plug on Linux Support
By James Lee
Sony has issued a statement saying that the next PlayStation 3 firmware update will remove support for other operating systems over “security systems”.
This latest update most will not be able to continue with the Linux OS on their PS3 and comes only months after iPhone hacker George Hotz claimed to have breached security measures on the console through the Install Other OS Feature.
Hotz wrote at the time: “This is the coveted PS3 exploit, gives full memory space access and therefore ring 0 access from OtherOS. Enjoy your hypervisor dumps. This is known to work with version 2.4.2 only, but I imagine it works on all current versions.”

Bad move on Sony's part. I understand their trying protect they product, but dont screw the consumers in the process for better security. They take away a great feature that makes the Ps3 what it is. You paid for the complete package and they strip it down. They dont even replace it with anything worthy. It does everything, bullshit not anymore. I will only update my 40gig, my 80gig will stay as is with the install other OS feature.

No, I didn't buy 2. My 40gig was free and I only paid $200 from my 80gig the day it released. aleast know what you talkin bout before you say anything. Sounds like I win.

Re: Sony PS3 Pulls Plug on Linux Support
I will not be updating my ps3 and I found a nifty workaround for getting on PSN without updating to the "OtherOS killer" firmware.

I used Logan5's tool and it worked great, but I did notice that if there was a 'game' update that it blocks it and errors out, so not sure what to do about that, but for now I'm playing MW2 online and still have the OtherOS feature.

hxxp://jaicrab.blogspot.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; lol...no wonder PS3 is concerned. brawwwhhhhaahahahahahaaa Too late Sony you have put up a good fight. Yes you have. The hardest one to crack. Just like Bluray was supposed to be such a backup stopper as opposed to dvd encryption and even the late HDDVD encryption.. Now in the game realm you seem to have taken some damage here first by Geohot and now theres more out there whom are finding your weaknesses. Yes you are strong, but just like The Spider (Silva) you too will go down. And I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
