spoofing benq as liteon with no ck3.

i was flashing my brother's 360 a couple of months ago and while helping me he accidentally plugged the power cord in upside down. i didn't even get a chance to get the dvd key and we thought the drive was dead cause it wouldn't open or anything. he still used the 360 as a media center. recently (past month or two) his drive will now open and close but it won't spin if he puts anything in it. he ordered a benq drive off ebay and he wants to try to get the dvd key from his drive so he can spoof the benq. when i first attempted to flash his liteon i built a probe using this guide and i used the 360 to power it. i unplugged the power cord from the back of the drive and plugged it back in while the xbox was on, i don't know if thats the proper way to do it but it works when i flash my 360. i don't want to uplug the power cord from the back of the drive cause i don't want to risk the drive not working again. is there another method of powering the drive with the 360 without unplugging the power cord from the back of the drive?
