liteon 1.6 to 1.61 odd disc reading issue

Hey everyone I hope this memorial day weekend found everyone well rested and in thanks for the hard working soldiers of our armed forces.
My question is a rather interesting hunch.
For the longest time now I have been using 1.6 with an iso disc to load all my discs without ever thinking twice about updating being as I do not ever go on live. After flashing a friend of mines liteon with 1.61 repack I noticed that he did not need an iso disc so I felt compelled to move along and skip the now trained step in using the iso disc. After about a day he calls me up and says that his drive is dead, that it will not eject and when it does it will continue to read and read never finding the disc. I thought oh man this guy has a bad drive so I flashed it again just to see if that would help. Nope same issue came back up again so I told him to buy a sammy and that all would be honkydori. So I go on my merry way and turn my system on after now having flashed it from 1.6 to 1.61 and all seemed fine. BUT I turned it on today as my wife wanted us to take a break from our studying to finish up the last level of SC:conviction (shes ruthless) and I am hit with a please insert disc>>>?? I am baffled by this so I trouble shoot. I put in old wave discs, nothing it wont even read them. Turn off turn on, and again and finally after putting the iso disc in and just letting is spin, it comes up with a read. I put in conviction and bam it reads it without a hiccup. I am starting to think that it might just be the FW that is the culprit here because I never had these issue happen before. Both drives were ripped in JF and then the FW was compiled in JF and then sent to Iprep 9 where they were put into the drive. Might it be that i used an outdated form of iprep with a newer FW? I am going to try and reflash using iprep 10.7 and see if this can rectify the issue but I would appreciate any tips that anyone has come by.

It probably is the FW, you should flash a non stealth FW, or flash LT, that way it doesnt check the wave.

Reflashing wont help, when flashing you either get a successful flash or a failure, there is no in between.
