Different Versions Of LiteOn Drives?

Post by NeoRio »

I'm getting ready to flash my new LiteOn drive. To detect the drive, I looked at the wire colors, as shown in the Jungle Flasher tutorial. I vaguely remember some news about there being different LiteOn models...and that one of those models was un-flashable. That was over a year ago, so it might be outdated...but I wanted to check first and make sure, so that I don't run into any bad surprises while attempting to flash it.

I'm also planning on doing the wind tunnel (shroud) modification ( http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... 134&t=2035" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) and changing the fan out for something better. I think the fans I put in my other 360s was the Talismoon Whisper, or something like that. What is a good suggested fan to replace with?--and will MS possibly be alerted if the fan is running at 12v all the time?

Thanks again,
NeoRio

All lite-on's are flashable. Open the 360 and look at the sticker on the drive it should be a 7 series, 8 series, or 9 series.(74850c, 83850c, 93450c)

The 9 series will need to be disassembled down to the PCB and you will need to use the probe v2, or solder in the LT switch. You can also solder a jumper wire, but any route you take you'll need to cut and solder some traces.

As for the 8 series, there is a v1 and v2. The best way to tell the v1's and v2's apart is to try and dump the drive. Treat it like a v1, and just try to dump it, if it wont dump, it's a v2 and will need to be treated as a 9 series. (cut and solder traces)

The shroud mod is good to do, increase the airflow over the heatsink always = good.

TBH, any third party fan will be better than the 360's stock fan seeing as that is what they are designed for, to be better than the stock fan. Although, they are usually louder since they are always running at full speed.

M$ cant ban due to fan speed, ive seen a few boxes that were so dirty and dusty the fan's would kick up to 12v a few seconds after start up. If they banned this way it would lead to WAY to many false positives, also its not a big deal if your fan is modified, the issue is piracy which is done with a modified drive.

Banning's are pretty well only done in waves anyways...

Thanks Haggard for your good answers, I do appreciate it. I'll hope we have a series 7 then, or 8 v1. Will probably come back for more help if it turns out I'll need to solder or trace.

Best Regards,
