Yes, it finally has Wi-Fi

It's hard to believe that it's been nearly five years since the original Xbox 360 launched. The Xbox 360 hit the market a year ahead of the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 and continues to do quite well in the marketplace. Thanks to a relatively healthy stable library of exclusive games and the second-to-none Xbox Live gaming service, gamers keep coming back for more despite years of RROD issues.

Over the years, the Xbox 360 has gone through a number of hardware changes. Advances in manufacturing technologies for GPU and CPU have resulted in smaller, cooler running chips; and HDMI output has made its way to the console. Storage capacities have been bumped, new colors have been added, and special editions have announced.

However, the basic design of the console has remained the same -- until now. Today at E3, Microsoft unveiled a new look for the Xbox 360.

The new Xbox 360 is smaller, sleeker, quieter and comes with an integrated 250GB hard drive (removable) and five USB ports (two in the front, three in the back). And yes folks, it FINALLY has built-in Wi-Fi (802.11n). It will be priced at $299 and will be in stores later this week.

According to Engadget, the current Xbox 360 Elite will drop down to $249 while the Xbox 360 Arcade will fall to $149.

In other Xbox 360 news, Microsoft today officially announced the Kinect accessory which captures full body motion for immersive gaming.

Engaget crossed out the line about the price drop, so I dont know if thats true or not.

Also, there is an unboxing video here if you would like to see the console in high def:

Looks great!
I can't see a memory card slot though, maybe they're ditching that for USB only...
How do I explain to the missus that I "need" the new console to improve my gaming experience?

Five USB ports, the memory card slots have been dropped as well. Supposedly, the hard drive is new and is not compatible with the current design.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake,
you just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake.

Its a totally different hard drive design, it comes from a hidden slot in the back instead of being top mounted. Wondering if they are going to be a USB external harddrive so you can hook up the new drive to an old Xbox and copy your stuff so you dont have to redownload everything again.

In the press conference they said the price was going to be the same as the current Elites, but then after in and interview they said something about there being a price drop on the current arcades and elites.

The hard drive for this new one is not compatible with the current on market 360. I would imagine that this is only because of the connections. Since I don't know what they have tucked inside the module it may not work this way at all, but the possibility of removing the drive out of that housing and putting it into the housing of the original may work. But without one to play around with, I have no clue if that would work or not.

The way you copy all your stuff is with a transfer cable. Same as before... Plug your xbox hdd into 1 end, plug the other usb end into your xbox slim, hit A and it does it all for you...

I am willing to bet the HDD is just a 2.5" laptop HDD inside their 'module' same as with the current HDD. Hell its probably the exact same 250 gb HDD in the COD xbox. I'd also bet its got a 9 series in it, I doubt they'd put a different drive in, and hell if they did it'll be hacked eventually.

Why would you need a mem card? Just buy a $10 thumb drive and use it, that's better than a 360 memory card anyways.

I'm planning on waiting for a kinect bundle before I buy one. The problem is waiting :P
