Quick Question before i load firmware

Post by R3Ap3R »

So before i flash the firmware on my benq drive i wanted to verify something before hand. While making bootable drive in iprep it is showing my silicon Image SoftRaid controller.. and not my Nforce Sata. Will this still work? I get both MTKflash and dosflashcompatible in green so i think its a go, but just wanted to make sure... Also when i do Prepare Destination... i receive a preparation complete. So before i go forward with taking apart xbox and all that good stuff i wanna verify my sata compatibility. Thx

the silicon img wont work.
for that matter the nforce may not work.there are not many that get it to.
beside the ? click the drop down and pick your sata controller.

if you cant get it to work i would say get this.

sil image won't work as far as i'm aware :|

check the drop down or click the "switch to IDE based controllers" for the onboard nforce to showup - not 100% sure if that will work either :|

yea hell ,it cant hurt anything just to try and dump it. ;)
if it works great check the dump in firmware toolbox for a good key and flash.
dont be surprised if it dont work.

I'm not 100% sure if that particular controller will be successful but.. if you are serious about flashing your box you are going to have to open it @ some point... it's upto you wether you want to try that controller or purchase a controller that is proven to work like the via 6421 & wait a day or so for it to arrive.

i'm sure one of our team members can confirm if said nforce controller is a goer or not.

It's worth a try, but make sure you check the key in your original firmware (if you can get a dump that is, most of the of the time with onboard sata, you get stuck at reading the drive). If it contains all 00000's or FFFFF's then DON'T FLASH, try the dump again, 'til you get a good key...

I think everyone here would recommend getting a VIA 6421 sata card, but certain nforce chipsets are rumoured to work with the Benq drive.

I'm not gonna post for the card the link 'cos it's been done 15000 times already :P

Ok so im going to go ahead and boot into iprep, run dben and go through the whole off.. on then off for two seconds deal, and hopefully get 0x73 after it reads banks... but possibly i may get stuck at D1 due to my Nforce chip. Is this accurate? also how do i know when the reading of my bin is (completed / successful / or unsuccessful). basically if i dont end up with a "Reading Finished" with a datasum then time to buy that VIA 6421 card i would assume.. btw thx for the prompt replys... forum rocks

yep
your right.
if you do get a dump check it first before you flash
make sure you have a good key.

Ok one last question...

So if it reads all my banks (crossing fingers) and i get a Reading Finished... the dump will then be placed on my usb flash drive? What proggie am i going to use to check dump and verify that i have a good key? i already updated firmtool in iprep, but as far as software goes does it look like im missing anything?

edit: You should reboot the computer after the dump and make a copy of your orig firmware. Then check it with firmware toolbox v4.5.Your making sure it has a good key.Not a lot of the same letter or same number.

Search function goes a long way...
