Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
Hi Cofree,
I'm making a new post for this and taking it out of the Vista thread.
My VIA Card came in, the one from TekGems. Great recommendation!
I'm about to begin the steps to flash.
I have the TS-H943 drive f/w=ms28
In both Textbook and Cofree's tutorials, you guys are using older versions of iprep. Does this matter?
I'm going to put the ixtreme 1.3 on there at 12x
I don't have a usb thumb drive, but I heard you can do this from a DVD-R. If it's not safe, I'll just go out and buy a thumb drive, whatever you reccomend Cofree.
Knowing what I have for a setup, and on VISTA, what do I need and which Tut should I follow?
Thanks man!

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
man i've never had to flash from a cd so i can't tell you about.
if your computer has a floppy drive you can use that.
I would use a usb flash drive. You can pick one up cheap.Around $9.00usd.
Use Iprep 101 v006. check this out.
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... =110&t=215
instead of inputing the benQ firmware.Input your sam firmware up top by samsung.
let me know how it goes.

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
Thanks for the quick reply.
I have a few other questions though.
In Iprep, its not showing the VIA card, you mentioned, but rather this one:
VIA RAID Controller - 3249
That is what installed when I put in the VIA PCI card this morning. Is that ok? Remember, Im running on Vista.
So once I Prep the USB, and boot from it, that's it? I dont need any other programs, like idump or anything like that?
Could you link me to a full tutorial that I can follow along with for the flash? I dont want to f*** anything up.
Thanks Cofree, you're such an asset to this community. Very rare that you'd help so many newbs out like myself!

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
click the little beside the via raid controller.
is there only one.if so then that is your pci card. There is the off chance you are seeing a sata controller on you mother board.
Your number may be different than mine.
Iprep 101 v006 is one of the programs you need for dumping and flashing you dvd drive.
after you get the dump done you must stop and check you orig firmware with toolbox v4.5.look at the key and make sure it look good.(a lot of different numbers and /or letters)If its all the same it a bad dump and STOP right there. Then start all over and do another dump.
The other is fimware toolbox v4.5
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... f=112&t=48
idump is not a program. It's a command that you type in when you are in dos.
If you use iprep v006 the command is different.
i moved the tread to 360 dvd flashing.
type what it tells you on the screen for dump/read.

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
Sorry to keep bugging you COfree, but I'm still confused.
Is there a link that you could send me to that goes over all of this from Step 1 to completion?
I'm not sure what to do once Ive actually booted from the USB Flash Drive and loaded the dos program.
Also, is this the bad flash method? I thought that ms28 drives had to be done a special way.
Thanks for all your help.

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
hey corree,
Not sure if you're checking the boards, but I'm right in the middle of this process and need your input.
I got the USB device working, booted up, hooked up the xbox and ran idump.
Did the 10 sec trick.
Now its telling me to reboot but Sam Tool never started running and I'm not back at the command prompt.
How long should it take? Any help man, Id appreciate it.
Thanks!

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
This is what it said:
C:\>iDump xxxxxxx xxxxx
Direactory Already Exists
Directroy Already Exists
MTKFLASH By Joseph Lin...
PLease Wait...
Drive Scanned:
1: Xtreme Pri Master
Choose One Drive:1
Port: 7000, Master/Slave: a0
Flash Type: "SST(SST39SF020)"
Reading...Finished! Datasum, EFAD, OPLSUM 0
>>> Please reboot your PC
_
There was a blinking cursor and the xbox green light was blinking.
I waited 20 min or so, and then restarted my computer and now I'm in windows with the xbox turned off.
I had all the drives unplugged when I was running idump.
Any help would be appreciated Cofree!
Thanks man

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
if you are using a usb flash it should not take to long a few sec.
BUT
if samtool is not running i bet you did not unplug all your other driver in the computer.if you left a sata drive hooked up it will hang samtool every time.
power everything down
unhook the other driver then start over

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
There was no other SATA Plugged in, but Ill double check. Power should be disconnected too?
Is there any other way to do this?
I looked at the USB in windows after and I see a 256kb file named ORIG.bin. I opened it up in the checker and it is a unique key that looks valid.
I backed it up.
But the hacked.bin is 0kb.
Any ideas?

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
Hey man,
One last thing to add.
I tried to re-make the USB device and I forgot to mention this problem.
It gets 80% done making it, and then gives me this message:
Exception Processing Message 0xc000000a3 parameters etc etc etc...
Cancel, Try Again, and Continue.
No matter which option I choose, it eventually finishes and gives me the correct screen.
Is there any other way to create the bootable USB? I bet this is why SamTool isnt running afterward.

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
that should mean you dont have a floppy.
that is what the error is from.i think.

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
Yeah thats strange. I dont have a floppy drive attached to my computer, but there is an option to boot from one in iPrep.
Update:
I tried to make a boot USB in iPrep 006 and it gave me the same error.
Do you think this is why its not running Sam Tool?

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
no
the error is because the floppy is not disabled in the bios and your computer dont have one installed.
its my understanding that the error wont hurt anything.
is there a way to try this on a different computer maybe one with xp.
i dont see where vista would hurt anything but ive always used xp.
when i first started i use a floppy
you could try that put a floppy in your computer and boot off that

Re: Flashing TS-H943 ms28 Drive
I disabled the floppy in device manager, and now it has disappeared from the iprep program.
I'm going to re-do the whole thing.
I'll report back.
Unfortunately I don't have a computer with XP! Im thinking about reverting though...
