Overheating without the heatsink being hot just means the heat is not being transfered fast enough into the heat sink, then dispursed.

Could be paste, could be air bubbles in the paste, could be the heatsink itself needs to be resurfaced, etc.

Now basically all you need to do is watch the video on flashing a samsung, but when you get to the building hacked FW part, your going to load your benq's OFW as source, then load your samsung LT as target, and hit spoof, then continue on with what the video says.

So, the only thing I need to do at this point is to get the proper "hacked" firmware. I can't use the one that was for the Benq, right? The OFW for sure but the one allowing me to play my backed up games.

Is there one specifically for a Toshiba/Samsung on xbins?

Thanks for the help guys!

Alright!

I have a xbox who thinks it's talking to a guy byy the name of Ben but who is secretly named Sammy.. ;)

The flash seemed to go pretty easily and I have the samsung in the original xbox. Played Assassins creed for a little bit and it went well.

Since this IS a hacked firmware to enable me to play backed up games I created a backup of my Assasins Creed and tried it. Well, it won't read it. Says it may be a dirty disc and to clean it or reboot the box.

:(

If it ain't one thing, it's another...

I'll leave this up to the moderators here but I would like to persue this matter further. I can continue it here or I can move to a different location on the forum and start a new thread.

Mods, what would you like me to do?

I REALLY want to thank everyone for their help especially Cofree and Haggardsmurf

We can just leave it how it is, not a big deal.

Seeing as your using the samsung in your benq console and can play original's the flash went fine.

Now to make sure you have flashed hacked FW, did you open LT as target FW? or did you load your samsung OFW as target FW?

If you loaded samsung lite touch as target, then your drive is flashed with a hacked FW, and the problem is either your dvd burner, or your media. It could also be a combination of both. (or your samsung's laser)

What dvd's are you using, and how old is your burner? After a couple years the laser in your dvd burner will start to weaken and although it wont be noticeable with many things you will notice it in xbox backups.

One other thing it could possibly be is the laser in your samsung drive itself is weak. Backups are burned with like a $50 setup, but M$ original disks are pressed with $1,000,000 equipment, so they are much easier to read. Which is why original's will play fine lots of times, but backups may not.

So first, make sure you have decent dvd burner, if its seen alot of action, thats likely the problem. If its brand new, and not used very much, then it could be your disks. You should be using verbatim dual layer dvd's you should be burning at the slowest speed possible, usually 2.4x or 4x. Most times if your burner is brand new/in very good shape your disks wont really matter, but it always helps to use high quality dvd's. Finally if you use verbatim's burn on the lowest speed, and have a good burner, then your samsung's laser is tired. You can pot tweak it if you like, which basically increases the power that goes to the laser which will wear it out quicker but will boost the power of the laser. What's easier to do is just buying a new laser through ebay or another website, then to swap it all you need to do is open the drive, unplug a couple ribbon cables, remove 2 Phillips screws, and put the new laser in.

HaGGardSmurf,

Let me do some clarifying.

I made a copy of my Assassins Creed first and it didn't work. After I had burned the AC disk but before I had tried it out, I loaded my iso of Red Dead Redemption in and started the burn.

I went to the 360 and tried the backup of AC but it didn't work.

I placed the original in and it plays fine, so I played for a little bit and went to check to see if the red dead burn was done and it was.

I took it into the 360 and tried it out and it worked. So I played that for a little while and then it was just too late and was time for bed. ;)

Here is my setup:

6 year old dell with 1.4Ghz processor, 1 GB ram
I had to replace the dvd drive about 2.5 years ago and I now have a lite-on dvd drive
It hasn't been used much. I would say a little below average use. Not burning dvd's much in the past cause I moved on to HD storage

The Samsung drive IS about 6 years old... so it is getting up there.

(As a side note, I thought it was quite impressive that when I boot up the 360 I can see the laser's red dot on the top of the dvd drive. (Through the metal cover on the dvd drive...)

As for media, I am using verbatim and burn at 2.4.

You mentioned "at the slowest speed"... My burning software does have the option to burn at 1X time so are you saying I should use that speed?

That would take a long time.

It could very well be that the AC was my first attempt at burning a 360 game and missed something.

I am going to try a couple more games tonight and see what happens. so far I am 50/50

I'd like to get that average up a bit... :)

Well with the samsung's for whatever reason you can always see the laser through the case. That doesnt necessarily guarantee your laser is strong enough to read disks.

Anyhow, the slowest speed depends on the disk, MIS (made in singapore) verbatim's are the highest quality disk, because the quality standards in place at the singapore plant are higher than india or any of the other factories, these disks are all 2.4x. There are other verbatim's that are 2.4x as well but are not MIS. Other verbatim's are made in india or china or other places and these can be 4x.

Anyhow yours are 2.4 so burn at 2.4. Personally I burn my disks at 4x, and 6x sometimes when I'm in a rush.

Your burner and samsung drive are likely the problem. If you have a friend or anyone with a nearly brand new dvd burner, take a disk and 8gb flash drive loaded with one of your backups to their place and burn a disk on their burner. Then test that disk on your console. If that disk works without any issues, then your dvd burner will need to be replaced.

Also, you can take AS2, or any other failed backup to anyone with a flashed drive. If the game play's fine, then its your samsung drive.

Personally I'd see about replacing the laser for the samsung if your ratio doesnt come up. Even if its not totally the samsung's fault a new laser will help you read lower quality disks, or games burned at a higher speed.

Another thing ive done is I have a designated burner for 360 games with a full three year warranty so if the laser ever weakens, I can take it in to the store and swap it. (The place I bought it from is a computer supply store, so they dont give people the run around when it comes to warranty like other places cough best buy cough)

Results so far:

Assassins Creed - Failed

Red Dead Redemption - Success

Alan Wake - Success

Assassins Creed 2 - Success

That's a little more like it... Up to at 75% from 50%

Good to hear!

It could have also been a bad rip of AS 2, or even a bad disk.

For a BenQ you should get a 0x73 status. A 0x70 status is for the Sammy. And a question I have is why wouldn't you flash LT1.2 on it?
