Blu-ray Xbox 360 Planned By Microsoft
By David Richards | Monday | 18/02/2008
Rumors were circulating today that Microsoft is set to dump HD DVD and bring out a Blu ray Xbox 360 by as early as May 2008. The move will allow the Company to go head to head with the Sony PS3 gaming console which has been credited with being one of the main reasons that retailers have preferred Blu-ray over Toshiba’s HD DVD.
Insiders at Microsoft in the USA have told SmartHouse that Microsoft has already configured a standalone Blu-ray player that can be connected into an Xbox 360 and that subject to internal marketing and sales approvals the model could be on sale within 3 months.
The Company has also been working on a built in Blu-ray player however insiders are claiming that Microsoft see the HD format battle moving online with consumers offered 1080p movie and content files as a download as opposed to having to buy a HD DVD or Blu-ray disc.
Both Intel and Microsoft have been supporters of the HD DVD format that is set to be killed off this week.

It's pretty messed up that Microsoft and Sony are competing but yet Microsoft will put a Sony technology in it's product.

They just want to bring HD content to the 360. Of course they wanted HD-DVD because, one-They already have a working relationship with toshiba (Contracted for many DVD drives for xbox1 and 360), and two-Toshiba is not a part of Sony
So with Toshiba throwing in the towel, they've no other choice. It's either that or stick with HD downloads and I don't think the general public would be real kosher with that, especially those that already sunk money into the HD-DVD and now lost that venture. It's VHS VS. Betamax all over again
Those that did invest in HD-DVD just lost what they invested, although it would be nice if MS would setup some sort of trade in program to where you could trade in your old HD-DVD player for a percentage of a blu-ray player, but I don't think that will happen.

I know they could do something, it's just a matter of whether they will or not. But like I said, I don't see it happening.
