storing Drive key back on benq

Post by xtreme97 »

I managed to brick my benq this evening, and lost the backup firmware( please don't ask how). I managed to copy down the copied down the drive key, so is there any way of fixing this situation

You have the drive key? If so, you can just buy a new benq or any other drive and inject the key into the FW. (If you use any drive besides a benq you are no longer live safe)

Benq's are somewhat recoverable, how did you brick it what happened?

I've been off the modding scene for a while (since 1.6 IXtreme). I was trying mod my benq using Iprep 12.2 and was using a work around for the latest LT firmware (just renamed the firmware in the flash drive). Everything was moving smooth but I got complacent after the erasing and the rewrite went a bit funky. I figured it must of been the firmware because it stated firmware file has wrong file size and without thinking delete everything off of the flash drive. I manage to copy down the drive key during the erase portion though.

Well you can take iprep, load up any FW, and make your usb stick.

Then go into the usb folder, go into the backup folder (if its not there make one "BACKUPS") inside, make a folder named 1234567 inside that folder make another folder named 12345.

Download the OFW I've attached, and open it in jungle flasher as target (you may also need to open it as source) and click manual spoofing, then manually type in your key, press check, then OK.

Now hit save, and save it as benq-ofw.bin then put that in the BACKUPS/1234567/12345 folder, and boot iprep. Then use the rbenq 1234567 12345 command, and follow the steps.

You may be able to recover like that. It may be a pain but benq's are recoverable, some are easier than others, but you should be able to get it.

If you dont want to take the time, you can just buy a new drive through ebay or something and manually spoof your key.

Do the same method, as you just did, only with a CFW.

So take LT Plus, load it as target in jungleflasher, hit manual spoof, type in your key, hit ok, now save.

Rename to OFW, put in the backups folder, launch iprep and use the rben command.

iPrep will always work, the method of flashing is doesnt change for any of the current drives, the only thing that does change is the hacked FW. iPrep can no longer create Custom FW's it will build them wrong as far as I know.

So all you need to do is build the CFW with the newer build's of jungle flasher, or FW toolbox or whatever, then you can keep it as CFW and go into iprep and go straight to the flash command, or rename to OFW, and use the restore command.
