Samsung MS28--trying the 10 sec/bad flash technique
Samsung MS28--trying the 10 sec/bad flash technique
Ok, new at this, but giving it a shot...
Have onboard integrated via chipset that see the Samsung and gives the XTREME PRIMARY options.
After selecting the port and turning on the xbox after 10 secs (actually tried everything from 15 sec to 3 with same results)
I receive the PORT:e800, Master/slave:a0... message...nothing more.
After researching it, it seems that some of the Samsungs have firmware update protection. I was under the impression that waiting 10 secs was the work around or is this only for the VIA 6421 chipset?
I have also seen recommendations for Enable 800 image.... a boot image work around....one user of this technique bricked his drive..
Anyone seen this before and have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: Samsung MS28--trying the 10 sec/bad flash technique
as far as i know all v28 360 dvd drive are flashable.
the first thing i would say get this pci sata card.
http://tekgems.com/Products/la-pci22-vt6421a.htm
i know you said you have a via chipset.
i would bet its not a "via6421A or L" that is what you need .even if it is most people never can get there onbo sata to work.
i have never needed the 0800 disc thing.the 10sec trick works.
if you have any more questions just ask.

Part 2!
Ok, partial success. I got the Via SATA card 6421A. So, actually read all 4 banks, then attempted to flash. First attempt it stopped at 3% on bank 1 and completed the other banks fine. So tried to flash again...second attempt hit first 3 banks but froze and did not update the last bank. Had to escape out. Now I can't seem to flash anything. Have also tried 5-15 secs, but now I can't write/flash to any banks! Any ideas? I do have the original reads/backup files.

Nope, can't seem to get it to dump again! Weird nothing has changed.
Re: Samsung MS28--trying the 10 sec/bad flash technique
you need to do the restore on the drive
Re: Samsung MS28--trying the 10 sec/bad flash technique
Ok, have not been able to either reflash original fw nor dump the contents (what ever they may be). Never get the read after 10-15 sec wait. Am I screwed?
s the DVD a brick?
Any ideas or options?
Thanks.

Re: Samsung MS28--trying the 10 sec/bad flash technique
If you have the original dump with a good key, there might be someone on here willing to take a look at it for you. Basically you have to have a willem programmer with the right adapter to remove the flash chip from the DVD drives circuit board, then use the willem while connected to a PC to reprogram the chip with the original. After that, it should be back to stock again.
