to probe or not to probe?

Post by JaWzZz »

I have a 74850C drive, do i still need the CK3 probe to extract the key or does jungleflasher bypass this somehow?
Oh, is there any up to date tutorials for flashing this drive, i can only find old ones.

Oh and if i don't have a connectivity kit does unplugging and plugging in the power on the back of the drive work too?

Thanks for any feedback.

you need a probe or you have to solder the 707 point on the drive mobo
if its stock

if its been flashed then it depends on what firmware is on it.

it can work
but its damn hard to unplug and plug back in the power cable in under a sec
if things dont go just right at erasing point in the dump/flash you can lock up a drive

you dont want to spoof any dvd drive now
as they will not play games that have the ap25 check

Before you can spoof or anything you need the key from the drive. To get the key thats what you need the probe for. If you don't want to buy the probe, you can do an MRA hack. Google "MRA BOXXDR" you should find a link to xbox-scene with the guide by BOXXDR himself.

I think they do pass the ap 2.5 check (as long as the drive your spoofing is able to do the check) just not safe for online. I could be wrong though, I've only got 1 spoof and its OSIG is sammy.

i have a console/lite0n 7400 spoofed in a v28
wont work

also
i have a console/8300
with a 7400 liteon spoofed in
wont work

that is what i want more than anything
to be able to spoof again
even if it means no live
on that console

but from what ive read/heard it dont have to be the orig dvd drive
but it does have to be the same orig model
any 7400 dvd drive will work
or any 8300v1 dvd drive will work
and so on
so right now im looking for a 7400 and a v1 8300 dvd drive
to try and get these console going again.

can i get clarification please. When erasing drive (LITE ON 74850C) you have to cycle the power correct?
at 2:56 shootsteel says hes going to cycle the drive on and off........but its already on so, you want cycle off and on then right?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-WLe_8E ... r_embedded" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

this may be a dumb question, but i don't want to brick my drive.

After further reading and investigating i figured it out. The jftut1.3.8 guide explains

SORRY

Yes, he meant off then on.

If you look at the log, you will see he turns it off, and the drive returns the 0x00 status, then on, and it returns 0x72.

there are not many mobo with onbo via chipsets
there are some just not many
but look up your mobo and read the specs on it
if by chance you do have onbo via chipset
you could be in trouble
you would want to find a different pc to do this flash

IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers
VIA OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 Host controller

the Chipset
Intel 915P

like i said before, i did flash my sammy with this pc.

not sure what your asking
but
using jungle flasher
you want to use a onbo sata port
and a non via chipset

a pci addon sata card can cause trouble itself

I'm trying the flash the my lite on 74850C drive using connect kit/probe v2

so i was all ready to go pick up my ck3 kit and probe v2. As i was talking to the guy at the store he said
"all lite on drives you have to cut the traces, for the calibration for the sensor, if you dont the drive will only last like 6 months or so, then fail"

i stopped right there and said never mind, i don't want screw up my drive, personally i dont feel comfortable cutting any pcb board.

IS THAT TRUE, YOU HAVE TO CUT TRACES FOR THE LITE ON 74850C??? :(
(what drives do you have to cut traces for?)

i'm sad right now, so close.
